:| No, I wouldn't, however, you raise a relevant point. Cali finds his post through your Carlos Fandango Search system and then reads the replies, only to find inane gobbledygook from an inebriated poster or one whose fingers tap out a reply faster than his brain can process. These are replies that are of no use to anyone nor add to your knowledge base. Furthermore, with the Moderators feeling that there's too much work in amending posts, the famed knowledge base becomes devalued. But hey, I'm going off topic - chawk dee.

I think we are very much in broad agreement here. One of the main reasons why Mods don't want threads to go off topic and indeed try and prevent threads from going off topic, or evolve into a load of gobbledygook, is exactly for the reason you state, - it totally undermines the use and value of searches. It's certainly not a case of Mods feeling it's too much work, though at times it does become quite onerous. Here again the responsibility to keep threads on topic lies with the posters, as required by the forum rules. Though some posters seem totally and persistently incapable of doing so.

There is also a school of thought amongst some of the more vociferous members, that threads should be allowed to evolve and develop onto other topics, like a face to face conversation would. That however does not work well with searches, and I feel is more a case of laziness and a lack of discipline on their part. It is so much tidier and manageable if topics have clear definitive headings and the threads are kept closely to that topic. That way searches are quick and easy to make, and will produce the desired results, as opposed to the inane gobbledegook and off topic ramblings you refer to that we see all too often!

If members want the thread to evolve onto a new related topic, then they should start a new topic accordingly. The Mods often do split threads to start new topics where posters have failed to identify the appropriateness of doing so! ;)

Well, if we're realistic about it then we're all guilty of going off topic to one degree or another, even the Moderators. But I'll modify that statement and say the only guy that stays on topic is probably Izzie who raises a lot of OPs and rarely joins in the ensuing debate (if there is one).

Farang, the rules can be found here:

forum-rules-user-agreement-t460.html

The section closest/relevant to your question seems to be this one:

13. You will not flood or post on the forums redundant, empty, or nonsensical posts or advertisements as determined by udonmap.com staff (i.e. no "spamming").

Why not, it could be a concise and relevant answer.

Absolutely,..... it's the content that matters. It could be a short concise answer to an important question. That will be more valuable, than a long off topic diatribe. :D
