Re: Premier League 2010/11

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has been slated in the press by Danish defender Daniel Agger. After the poorest start to a season in 18 years for Liverpool, discontent in the ranks is the last thing he needs. There are of course ownership problems regarding the current American owners (Hicks and Gillette). The Royal Bank of Scotland have given a deadline of 6 October 2010 for the debt of £237 million to be repaid, but rumours here on Merseyside is that Tom Hicks has done a deal with a friend and Multi Billionaire financer to come up with the money and thus buying Gillette out and giving Hicks full control. Non of this money is to be ear-marked for a new stadium or squad strengthening.

Personally I will return from Liverpool back to sunny downtown Udon in a few weeks....Am I missing my home in Udon Thani....Yes......Does it help to watch the red side of Merseyside pull their hair out ........well, I am a Blue after all and do we have anything else to smile about being a devotee of The Blue Brazil?........errrr...NO

Into time added on in Manchester & it is..
Citi 1 Chelsea 0.
Carlos Tevez with the only goal, straight from defence to attack in 1 move & in the net. Tevez has 25 in his last 29 so is certainly in form & has 6 in his last 5 games against Chelsea, so they are a side he would like to play every week!! :D
Score did surprise me. I know that Citi have a good rep. at home but have not really shown anything like form so far - even though they are now up to 4th., level on points with Arsenal & United.
I did expect Chelsea to win by the odd goal in 3 on their playing so far this season. Looks like the CC result against Newcastle took a bit more out of them than I thought.
Arsenal must fancy the odds of reducing the Chelsea lead down to a single point later today as they take on West Brom. in London. United could do the same tomorrow after their long haul to Bolton.

Hopefully its opened up the title race.

PIENMASHs THOUGHTS - Chelsea unlucky , Arsenal out fought , Liverpool shambolic lucky to get a draw , outside the PL Scunthorpe credible home draw with Ipswich

Everton....a creditable draw at Fulham but are now bottom of the league after West Ham beat Spurs !
Some crazy results yesterday.
Surely United will take advantage of this at Bolton today !

Too right some strange results Zid.
Arsenal being the major one. Wenger must have had this as a caste iron 3 pointer before the kick off. Brom are a better side than the last time they were in the Premiership, but they have not won away in nearly 20 Premiership matches. To have slipped up 1 - 0 might have been explainable, but to concede 3 at home is poor, against even the best sides. The rumours have it that Wenger is looking at Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon as he has lost confidence in Almunia. I didn't see yesterdays game so don't know if the goalie was at fault, but in Arsenal games I have seen, he has never inspired me with much confidence.
Brom now up to 5th. in the league, but I think it might be a little early for the Baggies fans to start looking at European travel next season... :D :D After guiding them to promotion though, Roberto Di Matteo has proved to be an inspired choice as a manager...

Think I can answer you Bob, although it was the highlights at 0600 hrs this am, so still clearing sleep from my eyes.
Almunia made a smart save of a penalty, but certainly looked dodgy with one of the WBA goals.

The Chelsea loss to Citi has not done them too much damage in the league as they are still a win & a massive goal difference at the head from a second placed Manchester United.
They managed to scrabble a 2-2 draw away at Bolton.
Bolton have altered the style of play from the aggressive defensive stance they used to have under Aldyce. They showed their attacking flair today & twice went a goal up. Owen came off the bench to level at 2 all for United, with Rooney still mis-firing up front. The current flaw in the side would seem to be on the defensive front though. United were often lucky to escape & it was seldom by good defense when they did. Scholes could see the issue & decided to lend a hand towards the end. For all his ability & excellent service to United over the years no one would sensibly say that defense is his forte & he ended up in the refs book for his (to put in very generously) over enthusiastically endeavors.
2 points lost that United can ill afford if they are going to mount any sort of challenge to Chelsea. I cannot see Chelsea dropping too many points this season & have shown if they get on top of a side that they will score plenty.
So, on a weekend where Chelsea lose & United draw, I can still only see the title going in one direction & that is South again...

Realistically there are only a few times in the season when United can hope to gain ground on Chelsea and this weekend was one of them.
Its turned out to be a better result for Chelsea than if they had drawn with Citeh and United would have beaten Bolton....results quite a lot of people would have expected.
Arsenal even worse than United, losing at home to West Brom....what a missed opportunity !
Citeh have come out the best with them getting into the top 4 places.
Yes,I think the eventual Premiership winners will play in royal blue.....its a big ask of Everton, though ! 8)

Sunday, 26 September 2010 Barclays Premier League
Bolton 2-2 Man Utd
Newcastle 1-2 Stoke
Wolverhampton 1-2 Aston Villa

The full Sunday results. Everyone wins away from home except United..typical... :D
Nice result for Stoke as they were starting to get desperate for a win. Newcastle will be happy enough to finish their first season back in the Premiership where they currently lie in the table. :D A bit of a 'after the lord mayors' show' maybe for them after the CC heroics.
Villa will be happy to get the new man off to a winning start as well. They now move up to 5th. I think 3rd. in the Premiership was the best he managed with Pool, can't see him bettering that with Villa to be honest. On the bright side for Villa though, 20 year old Marc Albrighton on one wing & Stewart Downing on the other gave his side a definite edge. In another blast from the past, Gerard Houllier decided to start with an old faithful of his from the Liverpool days, Emile Heskey started his first Villa Premiership game for 6 month. As is often the case, the decision was rewarded with Heskey grabbing the winner. In the week he had come off the bench to drive Villa back into the game against Blackburn in the CC so he is already becoming a bit of a talisman for his new boss. In the longer term though it looks like Martin O'Neil left some more than handy young players in the squad. The trick now will be for the new man to actually be able to keep & develop them..

The lunchtime Saturday kick off today was a battle of the W's - Wigan at home to Wolves. I am sure this was played at lunchtime in some sort of attempt to stop drunken crowd violence between two teams who have no real 'history' between them. It is difficult to see this would be a ram jam crowd puller that live television would stop anyone but a relation going to another Premiership match.... :D Well that is my sarcasm over for at least the early match.
The result was a 2-0 win for the home side - Wigan, aided by the early sending off of Wolves player Henry.
The only real interest to anyone not a huge fan of either team is a line in the BBC match report that reads..
Wolves, crashing to their fourth win on the trot, had Karl Henry sent off for a reckless challenge on Jordi Gomez.

& some of you think my reporting is way off... :D :D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 048284.stm
I am sure it will be gone by tomorrow, but written in stone on UM.... :D
6 more games kick off shortly, but the real match is undoubtedly Chelsea v Arsenal tomorrow. Chelsea easily out fought & played the Gunners twice last season. Arsenal will not exactly have their A team out either so, sadly, Chelsea will probably ease through this as well...
