Premier League 2010/11

Postby Zidane » May 23, 2011, 9:10 am

In the absence of Sir Bob Helm, who has flown back to the UK by private jet, here are the results from the final day of the Premiership season....

Aston Villa v Liverpool 1-0
Bolton v Man City 0-2
Everton v Chelsea 1-0
Fulham v Arsenal 2-2
Man Utd v Blackpool 4-2
Newcastle v WBA 3-3
Stoke v Wigan 0-1
Spurs v Birmingham 2-1
West Ham v Sunderland 0-3
Wolves v Blackburn 2-3

So after an exciting final day Blackpool and Birmingham end up being relegated along with West Ham.
A shame Blackpool have gone down.....I had a feeling that Wigan would win at Stoke......Wolves lucky to stay up after losing at home to Blackburn.
Near the top of the table Manchester City cemented 3rd place with Arsenal ending up 4th.Spurs grabbed the final UEFA League place after finishing 5th ahead of Liverpool.

So,thats it till August but surely plenty going on in the transfer market and managerial merry go-around to keep us interested till the next season begins.
Many thanks to Bob for his hard work on this thread all season and to all the other "pundits" for their input ! 8)

I agree Zid ,, sad to see Blackpool go down they have been great to watch very entertaining , Wolves should have gone down with Birmingham n West Ham they have been poor all season .

A big thanks to Bob for all his hard work on the UM footy threads and being so diplomatic when refering to my beloved Scunthorpe Utd. Seems abit early for Mr Helm to go back to blighty and way to soon to claim his winter fuel allowance , Rumour has it hes got an interveiw for a sports writers position with the Daily Sport newspaper ,,,,,,, a quality paper indeed .

Thanks for stepping up to the mark Zid.
Arrived at Heathrow with 250 Chinese but managed to out race most of them to Immigration by jogging on the moving pavements!! :D Coach to Swindon where at the hotel room for the night managed to catch Match of the Day on the beeb without knowing any results , but god is beer expensive in England....150 baht for a small Becks..Thankfully am now in Weatherpoons with 200 baht for a pint with free wi-fi...
Great last weekend of excitement.
I am also disappointed Blackpool went down I think both my Holloway and their attacking football will be missed.
United win by a huge 9 points is remarkable as they are undoubtedly the worse United side I have seen play in the Premiership. That they will be without Van der Sar next year will be an additional blow.
I was sorry to see Ancelotti thrown to the wolves after 1 season of nearly. How quickly that double last year has been forgotten. I suppose it is the Russians toy to do as he wants though,,,

A big well done & thankyou to True Visions for this season's coverage of The BPL. In my 30 years here we've never had it so good, from all the live games, to nightly Premier League News to Premier League Football Today. After Saturday's Champions League Final I can happily go into hibernation until August, just might cast a bleary eye over Wimbledon, Tennis that is! Well done to ALL those that have posted on this thread, even to those east of "The Pennines".

Yes,sorry to see Ancellotti has gone.He came across as a decent guy who conducted himself with great dignity throughout all of this.
I think the writing was on the wall for him, though, once United knocked Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League.
But,I will never understand, why after winning the title in such an emphatic manner last season and continuing in the same vein at the start of this season they sacked Wilkins ?
They were a cut above the other teams in the Premiership,at the time,so if its not broke why try to fix it ?
Anyway,not our problem for sure.

As we look forward to the League 1 thread next season and Scunthorpes aim to climb to the Premiership,I see that manager,Alan Knill,is looking at his former prolific Bury striker,Ryan Lowe, with a view to bringing him to Glandford Park.

Citi will win it at a canter next year.
Of the top 7 teams they are the ones with the fewest issues with their current squad of players.
Need a world class striker, maybe another to replace Tevez if he goes and an attacking midfielder.
Defensively they are already rock solid. They also have an owner who will not bulk at spending 200 million.

United need players all over the pitch. They did this season and were let win the division by others failure, they need a goalkeeper, a striker, a winger and a defensive and an attacking midfielder. They will be given peanuts to achieve these buys.

Chelsea need a manager :D and have to either accommodate Torres, or dump him. In addition they need a strike partner as Drogba seem a possible to go and Anelka a cert. They are also lacking in midfield and need at least 1 defender. They have an owner who will splash the cash but wants far to much influence on where it goes. Will be very hard for a new manager to hit the ground running with new players to come in as well..

Arsenal will lose players, have a first 11 who are competitive and zero behind that. The manager will have to generate funds through sales.

Tottenham. Will flatter to deceive again. On a good day will look good but will fail too often to be a serious threat.

Liverpool. Need to get rid of half the first squad STILL. Have some good young players, but it is dangerous to go into a season without back up. They still have far too many average players to win the Premiership. Made a great signing in Luis Suarez but Carroll needs to fit in as well. Need major surgery still in midfield with at least two quality players coming in, at least one defender and maybe a goal keeper, if he decides to seek his fortunes elsewhere.
King Kenny has done himself the dis service of performing too well with dross that he might have to start next season with too much dross still in place at the club!!

Will finish next season as far away from KFC as it is possible to get!!! :D
