Now I don't have anything against Riff-Raff personally Lee BUT...

I don't want them anywhere near my home or anywhere near

where I drink, dine, shop, or on the streets I drive.

Is that asking too much? :?

The president hotel looks nice, really nice in fact.

I wonder if the buses parked are the ones that run back and forth to Bangkok and the drivers are just getting a good nights rest or are they the Chinese tour group buses.

In either case, not big spenders, kind of like me.

I have been in the area for 3 years and the busses have only appeared since the hotel opened.

The busses are no problem as it is a very wide street

We showed up at the President last Sunday.Very nice hotel, although the swimming pool is not useable yet and the smell of fresh paint outside is a bit overpowering !
But a decent new hotel is certainly what Udon needs with the Charoensri Grand,Ban Chiang and Charoen looking a bit tired now.
Talking to the staff, the hotel is expected to be fully operational by the end of this month.
Sorry we couldnt make the nightmarket as we got waylaid with some friends watching the Arsenal v Sunderland game.

According to the map, the hotel appears not to be within walking distance to the center of town and poorly located at the dead end of a long street. One could simply catch a ride to the hotel, but what kind of transportation is available from this place and how readily available is it?

Anyone know what the price is for a single room?

I'll be in Udon for only three nights in November. Would it be best if I stay near the Charoensri Shopping Complex? Recommendations would be appreciated.

I think the price for a normal room was about 650 baht, probably a promotion price.
They have larger rooms and junior suites around 1000 baht....good value really.
It is a fair way out of the centre of town but no doubt there will be a few saamlaws setting up business outside the hotel in the next few weeks.
Worth checking also if the hotel intends running a shuttle bus into the centre once its fully operational.

the promonotion prices are great and once the real prices set in i find it still good price for this hotel,
one thing i have notice more at this hotel that te staff are verry willing and freindly to help you out with anything and if you have a problem the manager will fix it within a flash, great guy to.
food is good and the swimming pool was great.
i have nothing to complain about this hotel will be staying here in the future without a doubt.

Traveller,
So is the promotional price 650B? Do you know how long the promotion will last? I wouldn't mind staying in a brand new hotel, but I'm still hesitant because of the transportation situation. Can you provide an update on the transportation availability leaving the hotel at various times of the day and the cost to get to the Robinson and nong prajak park areas? Thanks a bunch.

There is a rather large cleared, filled block of land on the opposite side of the road a few hundred metres closer to town. Maybe this is the new hotel area in Udon...

i have some more info on this place,my apolagy if i have repeated info
transport is tuk tuk in front of the hotel now, most of the time their will be three of them if not their will be oppisite the hotel on the corner.
it is a quet location and the rooms are great.
the restaurant has got to some problems ,but you will get them in every place what will start up.
io found that their was one waiter(litle thai guy who was great always their when you wanted him and great english, they seem to run out of drinks and food a bit but since they were not aficially open yet you can expect that,if you wanted drinks at the pool go to the phone and dial 4 and they will come to the pool, the pool was clean and nice and cool.
there is also a car park in fron of the building which a security guy keps a eye on at night .
if you want any extra blankets or pillows their will be a one of surcharge of 100 bath.
so early in opening of this hotel you might fing the credit card machine was not working yet so just ask if you are wandering
i found that if you wanted extra (anything )just ask same ,he is the thai bad headed guy,he is more that happy.
found the mannager speaks great englis and mre than happy to help you out with any problem .
i can see this place in the future doing verry well.

stayed here last night, a pleasant stay. got here early, just after noon and spent the day. very helpful staff, from opening door to settling in room, a deluxe, though checked out the other options. staff patient and very helpful. stayed with the reservation, a deluxe. no pics as their website is very accurate for that. pool a bit smaller than pics, but ample size, unless hotel full, then may seem a bit crowed. a few swimmers yesterday, though the water had a green tint. i didn't test the pool, tint plus overcast and cool at night time the past few days, so thinking it may bit a bit chilly. those swimming didn't last long, so my assumption may have been correct. ample parking, couple sitting areas between buildings, where i had breakfast, very nice outside. Ree and Gem used the coupons for breakfast buffet. no omelet station, and unfortunitely the usual warm, at best, precooked and waiting standard fare of eggs, ham/sausage, rice and rice soup, with couple things to put on rice, along with coffee, fruit, toast. i went to my favorite local mini sandwich place, which is just down the road. 4 of them, with 10 baht 7-11 coffee, and a nice light lunch. the one very helpful man noticed me enjoying my lunch and questioned Ree why, possible to khee neow to sit in, and informed ree no extra charge for little one, so i actually could of had coffee and toast, as the rest didn't interest me. but enjoyed my sandwiches. free wireless was working fine 1st day in room, but needed to be in lobby next morning. much stronger signal, internet available as on local in room. so unless working a bit better, maybe not dependable wireless in room, and we were in the 2nd floor. no elevator, if steps are a problem, but only a 2 story and 3 story building. no baht busses, tuk tuks available. 50 to night market, 60 return, not much haggling. will measure distance in car, but about 3-4 kms to market. maybe 1.5 to nearest large road, although there are eateries in the are, noodle/soup/som tam vendors. also a place right next door that i notice on return for coffee/sandwich run. large, possibly a bbq buffet, but didn't take notice, sorry. if familiar with the area, less than 2 kms gives quite a few dining options. actually no need to go to farang/shopping areas unless that is what you want. sampled the room service, ok, just a club sandwich, so not much to judge by, because didn't want to risk anything spicey, as i was already drinking a well price heiny (45) from mini bar, and planned on mixing things up later at night market with curry, margaritas, beer so didn't want to upset my stomach from the get go.

an excellent value during the promotion, 600/750/1240, i think. non promotion, 1200, 1450, 1850, i think, still a competitive rate for new place if not needing to be in the center of things. deluxe room was nice, well appointed, comfy bed, good water pressure, obviously spotless. most with balconies. junior suite was almost twice as large with some desk/working space if needed. top room was very nice, with sitting are, bar area and plenty of addition space.

for myself, after the promotion, not really for me, as i don't usually spend much time at hotel, just to sleep it off after a night out, so amenities i wouldn't use. was nice to test it out though, now back to my usual cheap butt. think the promotion is good till 11th, so may use again for that marine party a nong's. another fine choice to the udon accomodation list. the more the better.

good, no replies, so i can just add this, as too lazy to try to change/post/maybe not if someone replies while doing, apologies for my lazyness:

ok, noted corrections, chareonski shopping complex is 2.6 kms from the hotel. the buffet next door is the last reincarnation of the large buffet across from the proposed/postponed UD center. there contract had expired, and i'm guessing profit margin wasn't up to par, so a move to a lower rent area to improve things. it is also very busy everynight, so the location obviously isn't a problem, a good endorsement. so besides in house restaurant, which i can't really comment fairly on, not much to go by, but menu looked good and price within expected range, nothing really expensive or cheap, fair for hotel fare, and next door, very popular and inexpensive buffet. if knowing where you are and what's available, a decent collection of eateries within 1.5 kms, well within walking distance, even for my lazy butt. guessing nong prajack is about the same as shopping center in distance. for me, it might be walk too, and tuk tuk back. hope this all helps.

Thanks Traveller and LA for their nice review.

Likely, I will miss their promotion rates end on the 11th since no reply to my earlier emails.
