With HSBC it's so easy. All done through a Indian call centre, no complainants all very fast and efficient.
Although they say up to four days, it took only two, and they did ask me, what was the money to be used for.

We discussed the issue again yesterday and I had forgotten that he has Internet Banking with HSBC, he appears to be happy to use that facility.

Anyone know the limits and charges applied by HSBC on an international transfer?

10,000 GBP max in one hit 20 something (I think 3) per transaction. Can hit the Thai bank in Thai Baht or GBP - callers choice.

Sorry, don't know the limits.

Two months ago the charge for an internet transfer (GBP sent) from HSBC to Thailand was GBP 15.00, whereas a TT using HSBC directly just over a year ago was GBP 21.00.

Remember to send GBP - DO NOT have GBP changed into THB before sending, unfortunately HSBC do not use Vaseline when applying their exchange rate in the UK

A couple of years ago whilst in Udon I needed cash from the UK to pay the balance for purchasing our house. I went to Bangkok Bank who would only give me 200,000 per day on my debit card ( I did have a savings account with them). I went to the SCB close by and asked if I could withdraw 1,000,000 baht on my debit card, No problem they said. Swiped my debit card, took a copy of my passport and gave me the cash. I opened an account with them and cancelled my Bangkok Bank account.
Quick and easy. No customs involved and of course a good transfer rate although the Nationwide do charge 1% fee as from 1st July this year.

Ah Yes Jimbo I forgot that HSBC are offering a "do it yourself" International Bank transfer system via their internet banking site rather than having to telephone a friend in India.. :D
The only thing I would say Dero is that if your friend uses the internet approach only do on his own PC. If he has to use a Internet Cafe then the only one I would ever suggest would be Pop Pops - most places :yikes:
