Prohibited work by foreigners in Thailand

Thailand laws, tips and advice.

Those are absolutely prohibited! The first 6 and 28,29,30,34 and 38 are the ones that can be applied and interpreted against a falang if a Thai authority person wants to interpret it in a manner that could cause problems.
Volunteering is also against the law for this list! [-X

Interesting list .........but is this for hire or reward....... or just doing the act....... which would make getting out of bed a bit risky !!!!

You are not allowed to own land, so then it is not your lawn. They could say that you are doing agricultural work for the owner of the property, which is illegal. ;)

Does anyone know of ANYBODY (not rumour, fact) that has been prosecuted for doing "work" around "their" house.
I would suggest no, because in all the Thai forums I have ever read I have never read of one. And I know some Falangs who have done "serious" work around their homes, of the building variety that could certainly be described as work & not just keeping clean & tidy.
I would think that you would have had to have seriously offended someone in a powerful position in order for this to happen. Even then, there are cheap & cheerful ( :yikes: ) alternatives to getting vengeance for a Thai with clout than bothering to resort to the law....

Bob, thanks for that post. =D> I will be interested in the response from the collective brainpower and web searching abilities of the UM members. I suspect that you are right, that nobody has ever been prosecuted, except possibly for blatantly running a business. However, being of the paranoid type I still get that nagging feeling when I mow my lawn, and find myself looking around to see if any of the neighbors (or the local landscape guys) are watching.

It is of particular interest to me, as we are getting ready to build a house in my wife's village, and, being an engineer, I plan on doing some of the design, planning, construction supervision, and maybe some of the actual construction work, all clear technical violations of the law as stated in a previous post. Although I will be using locals for the actual drawing of plans and construction. :-"

Your survey would surely give me some peace of mind, if the results are as expected.

I also come from a construction/engineering background Jimbo and if I ever get round to building the house it would be very difficult not to get involved to some extent and would also be very tempted to carry out some of the work myself. Especially the electrical installation, I would be able to sleep soundly without the fear of burning in my bed

I did know of 2 falang situations in bangkok over 6 years ago!
by BKKSTAN on March 20, 2007, 11:43 am
2 individuals in Bangkok,1 swede and 1 Scot were arrested for painting their own house and the Scot for building his own wall, while I lived in Bangkok! The Scot was deported and the Swede warned and fined! The Scot ,I had met and had some small talk prior to his arrest,The Swede was a friend of a friend!

I have never heard of a hassle in the Udon /NK area.As a matter of fact,I met a great guy from NZ that lived in Nong Khai during one of his Bangkok visits, that told me he did his own remodeling himself and had just finished building the bar fixtures for another falang that was opening a business in NK.It was his talking about the no hassle attitude of the local authorities towards falangs that brought me to check out NK and eventually move here!

Best move I ever made, after over 5 years in Bangkok, where falangs were ''fair game'' at the time, although I personally stayed ''under the radar'',I definitely felt the target on my back at times. It is hard to get a fix on people in Bangkok because most of the city is made up of strangers, except some neighborhoods,it is hard to feel like ''community'' where you know the do's and don'ts!
