Quadbikes

In the past I have heard of quad bikes for hire in Pattaya, Kol Samui and Chiangmai, and there does seem to be every other type of motorbike, sidecar (front,side and back), samalor / tuk tuk, on the road, so I dont see why they cant be legal, except perhaps quads need to have indicators, horn, lights etc etc..Thailand does make its own quadbike, but I forget the name..I have ridden bikes for 40yrs, and had a Honda 4x4 quad for years for work purposes, never again..highly dangerous to ride on uneven ground, tires are costly, Honda's are automatics which I found to be useless when towing a trailer, and the excelerator was thumb controlled, over long distance , the old thumb would cry out with pain...

if you havent bought one, look at a Suzuki, as it can change from 4x4 to rear drive only, and has a normal motorbike throttle..

Not on topic, but related.....I saw 2 or 3 new quad bikes for sale at the electronics parts store in the basement of old Big C several weeks ago. Can't remember price, but I'm guessing they were Chinese imports.

These bikes at big C are 150cc and retail around the 50,000 Bht.
Im hoping to get a 200cc or even better a 250cc, any one know where to get them?

Ive seen a couple of quads going around town, but still not sure if legal or not.

Even if you bought a new Motorcycle , it wont be registered till its sold.

The only people to advise on this are the sellers of the new product, if they dont offer plates, then it cant be registered probably ??

Dont accept, yes it can be...

Worth a trip to AEK Licencing section and ask them..... after all they provide the plates, collect the taxes on any registered motorised unit.

Theres no way that quads can bee registred but there are other ways to drive "legaly" whit this 150 cc China ATV:s.......

There is an old policeman working at the policestation in Nong Wai (Nong Wua soh headstation) driving one of this Chinamashins......instead of the registerplate he pot a Thai flag on the bike. Its around 70cm high so everybody can see it clear and maybe....thats even better then a registrationplate!!!!!!! :-"

But...what happens when the real quads come out on the streets, exampel a Yamaha raptor 2 stroke 750 cc whit around 120 hp.......then surrely the quads taken away from the streets but these are so expensive in Thailand so you only have to look out for this ones in the BKK area! =;

Have a nice day!

I threw the question out there to bikers in the supposed know..reply came back, yes you can hire quads in Patters, Kols and Chiang, but they are not street legal, but the rental firms dont care, as the police make a nice tidy little sum off the driver, should they decide to police the law..but like someone said, go ask the rego people
