Rain, where art thou?

Post by douglas » August 9, 2012, 9:24 am

Hi,
Should not have said that the rain is abating. 15 mins. later there was a downpour. Still raining now, and not stopped since 0200Hrs yesterday. I curse those that prayed for rain. Please say another one to make it stop.

Nice steady rain all night and through the morning in Nong Khai.

Wonderfully cool, grey, dark, and drizzly... Let it rain!

Finished Infinite Jest and got quoted by mash in the same day.

Things can get pretty exciting around here in the rain. Back to it.

Rain, where art thou?

I notice that Dallas, TX is supposed to be 109 today, Orlando FL 93, NYC 89, Los Angeles 91. Here we are living in a tropical climate and today's high was 76. It took some courage to take my outdoor cold-water shower today.....made easier because the well water is 77......warmer than the outside air.
It's sometimes difficult to explain to people back in the US why we choose to live here. .....strike that......it's not difficult to explain, but it's often difficult for people who don't live here to understand why we do. They'd all be asking why I didn't take a hot water shower inside the house. They don't get it!

An inch of slow-ground-soaking rain over the past 24 hours 18km outside of town.

Given a choice of more rain or less, it'd probably be in everyone's best interests to do some rain dances at home to get the water levels in the city's main reservoir back to normal. According to the article in Thai Rath, the water levels are at 21%, normal for this time of the year is 60%.

Wow, somebody out there has a rain dance they need to get a patent on. Coincidence, me thinks not.

it appears the monsoonal flow is pushing typhoons a bit further north than usual.. The last several have tagged the Philippines, tracked to southern China then hit northern Vietnam, northern Laos with us just getting the edge of the rainfall and usually just a lot of clouds... July and August are usually are two highest rainfall months http://www.tmd.go.th/en/province_stat.p ... mber=48354

If you did mean Udon, I'd say August and September on average, although there isn't an enormous difference.

Update: At the end of July Udon precip was the 5th worst (of 102 yrs of data)
By the end of August it was down to the 3rd worst

Although this month has certainly had some rain, my guess is that it hasn't been nearly enough to
get the numbers off the bottom.

This time last year, the ground around my area was already saturated by the rains. This year it is dry, still awaiting the monsoon. For the last three months the village has been shutting the water supply off on weekends from 9-5 to ration the water supply, last year there was no problem. It would seem that the 2015 El Nino is already bringing back drought conditions....

http://www.ibtimes.com/el-nino-2015-be- ... ia-1918989

I guess I will have to push harder to get a well installed. If they are rationing water now, at the start of the El Nino event, next year this time they may not have any water to ration out.
