BKKSTAN: I clicked on the AEK Hospital header at the top of the Health & Beauty topic and found this:

http://www.aekudon.com/aekudonEn/checkup52.pdf

I was thinking that a complete physical would good be a good idea for me and the wife as well. Haven't researched the other hospitals yet, but this could be a start for comparative basis. I'm sure many forum members can give some constructive input.

Most of the Privates in Udon have packages, and they look ok, for the avaerage person. But why u need an ultrasound first up on your gut, i dont know.

Males should make sure that a PSA ( for prostrate cancer ) and blood test for Colon cancer are mandatory in their assessements.

Not sure, but u cant get audiometry done here, also no advanced respiratory stuff.

Make sure a cardiologist reads your ECG , as i know of one guy recently in BKK who requested a repeatof a medical based on a poor ECG performed by 2 incompetent nurses, who at the time were questioned by the patient as to what they were actually doing.

The repeat ECG was read by a cardiologist and nothing abnormal, the first report suggested some atrial malfunction in a definition undefined in any text book !!

Family history is critical when having a package medical, they need to include the " At Risk " issues with hereditary background.

Don't know if it is around but if so a full body CT scan might be wise. Both wife and I had one and were surprised at the results.

Wazza, can we get an opinion on this. I feel in the states it might be a bit over used but in our case very lucky. In other words the above recommendation might not be good for all.

Having had full checks done at AEK and Wattana, i found that over the years not only were the reuslts different but also the benchmnarks or the acceptable rangers have also been different even down to the blood check for Colon cancer, which has me waiting a period of 6 months to see if there was an abnormality or its just me.
( This decision was made after talking it through with my family ...all doctors).
So whichever hospital you go to keep to the same one, but in reality all are similar, the care package at Wattana is about 4,500 and well worth it, AEK a tad more expensive I think, you pays your money and takes your chance.

BP

the question is, would the detailed examination and tests also revealed the same findings or lead to having more testing and finding etc, without the expense and radiation etc.....

Its certainly overused , as it creates massive incomes, BUT it also does find those hidden issues .

The old story, if you go looking hard enough , you might find something, but where do u start and stop???

An MRI scan costs approx 9000 baht in KK depending where its done ( my ankle )

Just 1 thing to remind people of.

If you do actually have abnormal signs/ symptoms, then a CT scan is probably a very good call by the referrring consultant, the chances of picking the issue up is greatly increased therefore allowing a quicker diagnosis and better prognosis.

Stan I am not going to recommend a Hospital here in Udon as you have a few choices but there is a place here that does MRI if you should want to get one. as for cost I have no idea but I would be interested in knowing the price

Good advice if one wants to possibly die. If it was not for CT scan, My wife would be on the way to the morgue. Like they say "up to you"!!!!!!!!!

My post was in jest, truth is my first wife had one of the first "Star Edwards" valves done in the US at age 26. She did quite well until age 49 when she died from colin cancer. She knew something was wrong and was checked 3 years prior to being diagnosed. So much for early detection! In my opinion it's a bit of a crap shoot.

Jet, you are correct. Maybe one of these days medicine will become and exact science. Don't think it will be in my lifetime but maybe for my grand kids it will be better.
