I've seen it first hand. He could barely walk, he played half a set and buggered off. If it wasn't for his band keeping it all together it would've been ten times worse.

I think Jintara is clean, yes. I'll ask her when she pops over for crumpets on Sunday. \:D/

Some people only suffer from it in Photographs....unless you mean Bloodshot eyes.....or maybe your are thinking of Arc-eye from Welding...or japs-eye for something else.....probably just sore eyes though.

The original Tawan Deng in Rama 4 Bangkok was set up by a consortium of Bangkok business men, cost them 70 Mill start up capital, they got that back in 2 yrs, so since its inception it churns out 35 mill a year. The term cash cow comes to mind.
They setup an even bigger one at the other end of town at the end of Ram indra 4 yrs ago and last week started one in Singapore.
I think they key point with them all is that they all incorporate a Micro brewery, except for the rip offs like the one here.
The beer is German style and without a doubt the best beer made in Thailand, pity they are not allowed to sell it off premises.

Thanks for that informative post, it is much appreciated.

Yes, it looks like a cash cow alright.

At the one in Khon Kaen, most of the young people were drinking hard liquor rather than beer although I did note some beer drinkers among the crowd of happy, enthusiastic people.

I have never been to the one in Udonthani or anywhere else, but I did have fun that night in Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen Tawang Daeng is twice the size of Udon and is a popular place for university students, much better than the Udon venue IMO. :D

Three university students (24, 23 and 19 or 21) invited me to the one in Khon Kaen and I am no spring chicken at aged 62 so do not discount your ability to make friends and connections with the younger set.

As Lee mentioned the majority of the people are university students, which made me feel uncomfortable at first. Then I thought, what the heck, this is a new experience for me, and why not enjoy it. Which I did.

Over the course of the evening and the early hours of the morning, I met more very friendly young Thai men and women. The music was very good too.

Surprisingly, the dancing bit went well since I am not a smooth dancer like my father. On the up-tempo numbers I did a few Elvis imitations and impressed the bejesus out of the young ones.

So, they thought I was really 'hip'! 55555

Even the fact that I do not drink did not put a damper on the proceedings. The young students made up for my abstinence in that department.
