Religion gone crazy!

Postby DermotC » May 11, 2011, 2:07 am

AN ORTHODOX JEWISH newspaper in New York has apologised to the White House after digitally altering a photograph in order to remove the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The photograph, released by the White House, shows US President Barack Obama and his staff watching the fatal raid on Osama bin Laden in Pakistan on 1 May. The image appeared in the Brooklyn newspaperDi Tzeitung – but was digitally altered to remove Hillary Clinton and counterterrorism director Audrey Tomason.

The weekly newspaper, which says that it has a “long standing editorial policy” of not printing pictures of women, apologised to the White House saying that the photo editor had not read the fine print which stated that the photograph could not be “manipulated in any way”, Reuters reports.

Di Tzeitung said that the newspaper’s readers “believe that women should be appreciated for who they are and what they do, not for what they look like, and the Jewish laws of modesty are an expression of respect for women, not the opposite”.

The paper said that it had sent its “regrets and apologies” to both the White House and the US department of state, the Guardian reports.

The White House has issued no comment on the issue

Hmmm..... wonder what this newspaper would have done (assuming it was around at the time) if there was a picture which included Golda Meir when she was Prime Minister of Israel #-o

I'd like to read their paper on mother's day. They might not mention it at all.

Religion gone crazy!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism
Judaism is the "religion, philosophy, and way of life" of the Jewish people...
The largest Jewish religious movements are Orthodox Judaism (Hareidi Judaism and Modern Orthodox Judaism), Conservative Judaism and Reform Judaism. A major source of difference between these groups is their approach to Jewish law. Orthodox Judaism maintains that the Torah and Jewish law are divine in origin, eternal and unalterable, and that they should be strictly followed. Conservative and Reform Judaism are more liberal, with Conservative Judaism generally promoting a more "traditional" interpretation of Judaism's requirements than Reform Judaism. A typical Reform position is that Jewish law should be viewed as a set of general guidelines rather than as a set of restrictions and obligations whose observance is required of all Jews.

The majority of Jews in the world, follow Conservative or Reform Judaism beliefs and practices.

I've always thought that religion was crazy. Faith is a good thing to have. You can believe in something without having to be a part of some organization that sets all the rules. If it works for you, fine. It's just not my thing.

Good find jj. =D>

I guess you could substitute Koran for Torah, Sharia for Jewish law, and in your final sentence, Muslims for Jews, and it sets out the position pretty accurately.

Good points JS.
I know you do a lot of downloading...
If you can get it, check out this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1424003/
It is, if you can believe it, a comedy about Muslims and Jews. It is good, IMO.
