Renewing a 5 year drivers license

For what it's worth. I now have a 5 year license w/o any type of visa. I got my 1 year license and went to renew a year later and was told no 5 year as I did not have a visa. I ended up with a 1 year again. Went to renew this past December and was given a 5 year without a question being asked. I went to the Kupawampi DL station as it is the closest to our house.
Went to the clinic there in Kupawami and let the doc check my BP and listen to the ticker. Signed the paper, 50 baht. A letter from the immigration office (this seems to be the hardest part as they act as if it has never done 1 before). Copy of the Blue book and passport. Pay the 655 baht get the picture taken. Good to go for another 4 1/2 years.

So you can get a 5 year without the visa.

Cheers :D :D

Renewing a 5 year drivers license

What hours does the LTO (driving license) shop at Aek Udon keep?

I renewed my TDL at Aek last March, changing from 1-year to the first 5-year. It's only a few months later I noted that there was no expiry date! Only question has been raised by a car rental shop but they accepted it and I recall that it has been seen by more than one highway patrolman on a routine check without comment. Now I am working in Bangkok, it will only be a matter of time before I get grief from a local rozzer!

I believe that the onus is on the recipient to check the details are correct so my cock-up and they will charge for it to be corrected and replaced. I have a long weekend coming up next month (the weekend after Buddhist Lent) so fancy on getting it sorted then.
