Renewing the extension on a Non O Visa

Thailand visa and Immigration forum

Postby rickfarang » August 20, 2008, 6:20 pm

Hi Stan,

I wondered whether you went to BKK this week. Congratulations on getting the extension in Nong Khai. I think the requirement for a house book is strictly a Nong Khai requirement, but I will find out what the BKK requirements when I ask in BKK next month.

Fun and games as usual, but at least you are taken care of for another year.

Just arrived about 1 hour ago. Will be back Tuesday.

Had to tuk tuk out of the soi!

The only thing I didn't like was having to get the bank letter the same day as going to immigration!Next year ,if I use the bank acct. again,I will ask the bank to post date the letter to the date that I go to immigration. That way I can get in early!

I went today I some times wonder were there brains are I am on a married visa so they want 40K a month last 6 months report so that add up to 240.000 baht now I brought in little over 400.000 baht for 6 months but one month only showed 20K so they challenged my wife on it. They take out the calculator to see if the baht against the USD will ad up to 65K but they did not take out the calculator on this to see if it averages out to 40k or more. it just shows to me how ignorant they are
I was wondering if it was in reverse if the expat was a women married to a thai man would they still demand 40K from the women ?

Stan - happy to hear every thing went fine at the extension. I have had Khun Sabai for the last two years and have had no problems. In each case, my bank letter WAS NOT from the same day - no problem. Both times, I got the letter the previous day from the bank. I think the critical thing is that the account balances listed on the letter and the bank book must match exactly.

bamakmak is right on spot. As long as the bank book and the letter from bank match exactly no worries, just make sure the date on the letter is dated the day before or the same day.

Stan congrats on the extension, see you at the next NM Get Together.

Has anyone gone back to their home country and gotten a new one after the two years expired? Wonder if it's possible? Beats going through the renewal process, at Nong Khai anyway. Bangkok Immy looks more and more like the way to go.
Had a guy from Phuket renewing his in Perth when I did mine --- No worries a new 'OA' handed over by the Consulate's happy smiling reseptionist, nice lady :D

Thanks for bringing up this method. I like to take "the path of least resistance" when I can.

I need to go back to the U.S. once a year anyway. If for nothing else, to remind me why I came here!

 The truth is ,getting the letter on the same day was never a requirement told to me!It was posted,in the past, that he required it in Nong Khai,so I did it!

Maybe someone else, that has to go to NK immigration, can ask and post for our edification!

I agree with bamakmak and Pop's 100% that getting the letter on the same day is NOT a requirement at NK Immigration!

I got mine the day before going to NK because I wanted to get my O-A extension done bright and early the next day and not have to play "Beat the Clock" with Mr. Smiley and his cohorts.

The week before last I got the handout from Nong Khai Immigration on extending a marriage visa.

Application for visa extension in case of foreign husband stays with Thai national wife, as of the 1st October 2006, Be advised to bring original and two copies of each document mentioned below, though if it's a letter to the Immigration Officer the original plus one copy.
Extension application form (TM.7) in filled form, complete with picture.

1. Photo copies of passport or travel document (Complete with copy of all pages that have anything to do with the current visa, re-entry visas, arrival stamps and current TM.6 slip etc.)
2. Valid visa, category NON-IMMIGRANT "O" or "B" (This Visa can only be obtained from a Thai embassy or consulate, outside the Kingdom of Thailand).
3. In case of working, the average income of the husband or wife or both must be not less than 40,000 Thai baht. If the husband works he must have a Work Permit. Income Tax papers from previous year (Phor.Ngo.Dor.1, Phor.Ngor.Dor.91, Phor.Ngor.Dor.94)
4. Or in case of receiving pension. Applicant must provide evidence of a monthly pension with a minimum of 40,000 Thai Bath. Evidence must include a letter of certification issued by the Embassy/Consulate of which applicant holds citizenship (Embassy/Consulate stamp meeds needs to be verified by Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Department at Chaeng Wattana Road,BKK)
(Evidence and letters etc. accepted in English and/or Thai only, all other languages must be translated and verified)
5. The Bank must issue a letter of verification (Bank Statement), stating the current balance of the saving deposit account. (Bank Statement should be made the same day as application of visa extension is submitted) Copies of all pages of Saving Deposit Account Passport Book. (Note; money must be in a Thai Bank. Before 3 months)
6. Marriage Certificate. if marriage outside Thailand, the Certificate must be certified by the Embassy/.Consulate of country where you got marriage. (Embassy/Consulate stamps needs to be verified by Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consular Department at Chaeng Wattana Road, BKK)
(Only English and/or Thai,Marriage Certificate are accepted, all other languages must be translated and verified).
7. The wife's Identity Card and House Registration Book.
8. Two photos size 4x6 cm. Full face photos of husband taken within the past 6 months.
9. Birth certificates of children (if applicable)
10. Application fee for extension is 1,900 Thai Baht.
11. Other needed information as informed by Immigration Officer.

I've tried to do an accurate copy of the handout to include improper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.

After receiving this document I sat at the desk and read it. I asked if I needed to go to Bangkok to get my letter from the embassy verified. I was asked if my bank book showed foreign transfers coming in. I responded that it did. Then I was told it was probably not necessary to go to Bangkok.

That was the only question that I asked.

Always be aware of requirement number 11, and remember, the immigration officer is the one who decides if you have documented your qualifications for an extension.

On Tuesday I went for my annual one year extension of my Non-Immigrant O visa based on supporting a Thai wife.

They accepted my income letter from the US Embassy that was more then one year old and had not been verified by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Bangkok Bank charged me 100 baht for the letter to immigration verifying my foreign transfers this year. The immigration officer divided the total by 8 to get a monthly average. I had transferred money 5 times in the 8 months.

I was in and out in less than 45 minutes.

I have to return in 30 days to see if the extension has been approved in Bangkok. Of course there is always the possibility that the local office made a mistake and it won't be approved, but I hope they know what they're doing.
