Am hoping that one of the posters can advise of a reputable dental specialist in Udon who specializes in implants. A phone number would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Some information on cost would also be useful. One clinic I went to charges B50,000 per implant.

It would be unreasonable to compare costs with another persons dental care for this.

Work ups, x rays, temp crowns, etc ....

Best advice i can recomend is to get a written quote off them for the work. If they wont quote, let ur feet do the walking.

Saves those arguements at the end , as it blows out....

The one I had done at AEK 3 years ago was 80k.

When I was in for the final checkup, there was a guy in getting ready to have 5 done. He didn't mention what it was costing him but, he did say he was going to need oral surgery to repair the bone before they could do the implants.

Doctor's name was Dr. Nuanlaor ( I had 2 spellings, Dr Nuanlaaw). Setup all my appointment via email

Not to get off the thread too much I took my g/f to AEK for a checkup two months ago and was told she needed a root canal and had TWO cavities. I repeated it to the front desk and she confirmed it and showed me the report. Made an appt. for the two fillings. Took her back for the TWO fillings at 800B each (I paid 400B in Selaphum a year ago) and after I paid I was asked when I wanted to make an appointment for the other three fillings. Won't be going back there and time for a second opinion!

I also have bad experiences with AEK's dental department. They did a lousy (terrible) job on a crown and the prices were way too high. Afterwards I was also pressed to make appointments for 'necessary' treatments I didn't need. Same story with Panjeveyinter (the old Paolo), they tried to convince me that I needed jaw surgery.

For dental work I won't go to either of them anymore.

Funman

What kind of sterlisation was conducted on your dental equipment. did u see the picks and drills, removed from CSSD packaging which costs more to get done , or simply taken out of a steam sterliser??? or were they just dipped in some alcohol solution and dried off with a tissue ? Thats where costs do increase and so do your risks.

U can get it cheaper yes agreed, and also not to any sort of best practice for sure.

Like any service charge, there are cheaper options, in health if u take cheap shorts cuts sometimes u end up paying with your life..

Ask the peopkle who have a simple dental removal and end up with secondry infections and worse case Endocarditis etc.....

Bit like the price of beer discussions, some places have good seats, x rays, facilities, access to ENT and Facial Maxilla consultants , no need for another visit just to see them.... Air Conditioning....and yes sadly to say a Dentist and their assistant who wear new gloves for every patient. If you see your Dental team approach you in the waiting room, with their gloves on, request them to put new ones on, as they have cleaned up the last case with them already.

Based on recommendations posted by Parrot and Udon Expat, I went to Rak Fun Dental Clinic (042 222 935), a few doors away from the Maya restaurant. There are3 dentists working there, I was attended by the boss, Major Dr. Saranya Kaewmat, sounds like an ex-army, I would guess in her forties and speaking English well enough that I asked if she studied in the U.S.; she did her studies in Khon Kaen. I had a cleaning and a filing that required a few shots of Novacaine for B1,300; my lady’s cleaning was for B500.
We are going back on Saturday for more filling for me; an extraction and a couple of fillings for the lady.
As I posted earlier in this thread she does implants for B50,000, which I would consider after she takes a few X-eays.
One thing that I worried about was using water from a stainless steel glass for cleaning my mouth, because I couldn’t be sure whether the glass was washed between patients. Next time I will take my own glass, and hope that the instruments are clean.

Ray C

for 10 baht take ur own water bottle, even better and Im sure the professional standards offered there would not be put off.

Hepatitis B and C could very easily be on that stainless drinking container.

Just politely ask to see the instruments to be used and ask how they were sterlised. No great harm in asking that, after all the consumer does have rights.

Yes, on the water bottle. I do carry a few in the car at all times.
How should they sterilize the dental instruments?
Doctor/dentist clinics and hospitals anywhere are danger to your health; they are probably especially so here compared to the lands we come from.

Soaking instruments in some alcohol based solution etc doesnt sterlise them, just cleans

Wet sterlising, is alike a steam, boiling water, not as affective as a Dry Sterliser, wrapped and then heat treated etc

The dental hand tool, uses teeth to hold the drilling piece and its up in there were debris, tissue, blood and body fluids collect.

Sterlising the entire hand set between patients is the recomended action, ( best practice ) but the dry sterlisation also creates a short life expectancy for the hand set , therefore extra costs to be recovered from the patients. This will also create short cuts with clinical standards for their practice and we all know this will occur with some operators.

U cant see virus's and bacteria with your naked eye, so how anyone can say it looks clean and accept without swabbing it and checking it ??

Maybe I've been here too long.......but if you're worried about how the dental clinics sterilize their equipment, heaven help you when you have a real emergency and have to go to one of the local or village hospitals.

The typical Thai dentist puts a cloth over your face leaving your mouth uncovered. I can only surmise that's so you don't see them pick up the instruments that they've dropped on the floor or scratch their hair as they're cleaning your teeth. If you're looking for 21st century cleanliness in your hospital care, I'm afraid you're in the wrong city (maybe the wrong country).

As for that stainless steel cup sitting next to the dentist chair, I've had the same thought about who might have used it before me. I'd bring my own cup, but then I'd wonder about the quality of the water.

I go to the dentist, I close my eyes, and I hope for the best. No matter here, no matter in the US.

One last thought on cleanliness......back in the 80's all my Air Force prescribed haircuts included a nice shave of the back of my neck. Then suddenly the barbers stopped shaving. "Why," I asked. "AIDS," they replied.

I've been back to getting the back of my neck shaved for the last 13 years in Thailand. Haven't come down with AIDS yet and I don't really want to know where the barber's razor has been before it touches my neck. Sorry for getting off topic.......
