News is just coming in of an apparent suicide death at the Lotus Condotel in Udon .An Englishman , aged 65 was found hanging by his belt in one of the rooms . He had left a note indicating that he had been cheated by his Thai girlfriend . His name is being withheld until relatives have been informed . Rest in Peace . whoever you are .

Sorry cannot find how to delete my usual signature from post .It is very inappropriate .

Indeed sad news - I hope it is just a mis-reporting of the day.
RIP & condolences to any family he may have.

What a shame!RIP!Alot of people isolate themselves and their ''feelings'' which can cause some terrible results when their emotions overwhelm them, suicide then becomes a consious option in their thinking! :(

Lets hope so, tho I was told by a friend (Thai) night before last..... and the circumstances of death were the same as you described and who said it had been on Udon News but as I said there had been no confirmation or rumours around the town

there wasn't much doubt if you saw the news episode in question. they showed video of the room and basically the noose and part of the guys head. then they showed his passport data page for the world to see. then they were talking about
large amounts of money and from the context, i gathered it had to do with his being swindled out of several million
THB. they also showed a close-up of the suicide note for everybody to look at. i know this is just the unfortunate
trend of sensationalizing events which come to an unpleasant end but the flippant manner of it all was just wrong.
oh, two days ago may be about right. i think it was the 6pm news on thursday evening. but again, inappropriate.

If the fellow's passport information was shown on the television, it's not much of a secret.

What was his name?

Following on from the story to the reporting of it . I heard the news from Radio Udon and they were definitely not in any way making a meal of it . Even to the extent of not naming the poor unfortunate in deference to his friends and family .
However it seems as though the cable TV station has no such qualms judging from Cali4995 .I don't know how others feel but for me , I consider the moments of life and death, are intensely personal occurrences and should be treated with respect however they occur .The portraying of the body and the death scene should never happen .It must be harrowing for his friends and relatives that he has taken his own life, but to be subjected to the images of his death must surely, only add to their pain .It is , I am afraid to say , one of the least appealing aspects of Thai society for me .

Agree 100% with what you say TB.
It never fails to amaze me that the Television companies will blur a cigarette or alcoholic drink out of a film & yet show death & accidents on the News in such a callous and caviler manner.
I can only hope that his family & friends never see the piece.

it was channel 64 (on my tv anyway) which is primarily a thai music channel but they seem to do an
amateur news hour at 6pm nightly. yeah, i wasn't even really paying attention then they were panning
about what looked like a very budget apartment, then suddenly showing partial images of the victim
and whoa, like a 5-6 second macro-view of his passport data page? maybe i was subconciously awkward
about examining it too closely but it most definitely was a british citizen, year of birth '45. surely the
gent has mates who can contact the embassy or whatever. the note in passing(also shown macro)
seemed to apologize to some thai friends who perhaps had been helpful but stated that he essentially
had nothing. yes sad all around and i would prefer if they allowed some dignity for the fellow but these
tabloids/ local news don't do that. they were discussing somewhat glibly about the quantity of THB in
question and it honestly made me embarrassed they were making news of it. but a one-time only show.

The reporting by the press and TV companies of this tragic death are disgusting to say the least.
Don't anyone tell me please "This is Thai culture"
Absolutely outrageous but I'm sure this will not be the last time events of this nature are reported  [-X

So even though the details have been made public, and certainly his family have been notified by now, nobody wants to reveal who it was?
