Schools in Udon Thani

Postby Lesh » December 28, 2006, 1:12 am

Hi. Hoping someone can help us. My Thai girlfriend and i have just moved into our new home on the Baan Hansa estate, (Maung City), Udon Thani and are looking for a school for my girlfriends ten year old son who will be joining us in the new year. We are looking for a school that will give him a good opportunity to learn the English language as well as Thai. Any suggestions greatly recieved.

Don Bosco. Good for English. My son is finishing his last year there.

He now can argue with me in English

Don Bosco is good. So is Udon Pitt.

Don Bosco is a private school - run by Catholics. Udon Pitt is a semi-government school. What that means is that they do charge a tuition for the English language program.

Be prepared for this part though: Tuition is not cheap. Also - the boy will have to pass entrance tests in order to enroll. If he is coming from a school in a village, it is more than likely that he will have to have some tutoring before he can pass the entrance tests. In other words - these schools take only the best students - not just everyone. Also - being able to enroll him in those schools mid term - which is what January is - may be out of the question.

Before you take him up to the schools - go and talk to them first and find out what their requirements are.

Since the boy is 10 years old, he would not be elgible for placement in Udon Pitt. That is a secondary school.

I do have a contact with some private schools that I will try to get some more information for you, and pass it on to you.
