Re: St Mary's school

Yes, our daughter failed the kindergarten entry test at Don Bosco 4 or 5 years ago, but got in to St Marys. More to do with the fact she was terrified of the crowds at Don Bosco and wasn't functioning. I have heard plenty of stories of demands for under the table payments at Don Bosco, certainly in ...

Re: Overpass/tunnel Udon Ringroad Nongkai Hwy

If I remember correctly the last stat from the Thai Govt stated that Tourism ( which includes us ) was approx. 11% of GDP, now if you even take a conservative estimate of 7K farangs living in Udon Thani Province , each minimum 40 k per month the figure is startling over a year of Income brought int...

Re: Solar Power

Agree batteries are the weak link. I have an emergency power system running off of a globatt AGM battery, just a small one (45 Ah i think). 2 years , and now battery dead. I will admit maybe neglected regular recharging, but we didn't get out usual outages this year plus illness meant not charged fo...

Re: ATM Withdrawal Change ??

There are some fee free cards available from some banks - e.g. Clarity credit card from Halifax in the UK. NO fee from Halifax to use abroad, cash withdrawal or when used to purchase something - just the Mastercard exchange rate (which is competitive with Transferwise). Still get the Thai ATM fee - ...

My thermometer dipped below 20 centigrade for the first time yesterday in 2 years! (location of my maximum-minimum thermometer means it is protected from lower temperatures by an overhanging roof). Was 18 C this morning at 5 a.m.

Earlier this week in BigC Suzuki had some cars on display. The prices seem to have been cut by up to 100,000 baht (i am not really up on Suzuki prices, but cheaper than equivalent Nissan were last time i looked).

Re: ClimateGate busts things wide open

The problem with global warming, is that you cannot stop it by just putting your hand out, any more than you can stop a steam roller. The momentum already in place will mean that if we stopped emitting CO2 now warming will still take place for decades to come - we have just been storing the heat in ...

Re: UK Economy

And today the UK's last bus manufacturing company is now in the hands of the receivers. They used to make the 'Boris bus'. Brexit and the value of Sterling are linked. I am one who believes, (rightly or wrongly) that a clean break from the dictats from Brussels will see Sterling thrive. The finacial...

Re: ANYONE USED SUPERRICH TO EXCHANGE £ NOTES TO BAHT

Most UK (and i presume European) debit/credit cards use the default visa/Mastercard rate. Mastercard usually offers slightly better exchange rates. These rates are very similar to Transferwise, BUT the devil is in the fees. Thai ATMs charge foreign cards a fee - 150 - 220 baht per transaction (so al...

Re: TM30 Clarification Received from Udonthani Immigration

Never filled in a TM30 in the 7 years i have been to immigration - although i believe they did it for me in Jan 2018, when they stapled in a new piece of paper in my passport (which is still there). Did my 90 day today (had been out of country since my last one), took less than 3 minutes ..... just ...

For the first time in 10 years had water coming under the door into my office. Fortunately 5 minutes later the rain abated and emergency furniture moves were cancelled. Water in the garden was about 20 cm deep. Down on the farm, all ponds overtopped their banks and met some of my fish in the field n...

Indonesia is planning a new capital, as Jakarta is sinking rapidly. OK, sea level rise is only a small part of the problem, but in the long term it makes Jakarta very much a lease on borrowed time.

Try KASIKORN Bank at Central Plaza. You will need an Address and or Rental Agreement in place, plus copy of your Passport with Non IMM O-A visa. On another note, as you are new to Udon Than, I presume you have done your TM 30 at the Udon Thani Immigration office, since arriving. Pipoz4444 Do not ne...

There are many links, with wildly different claims. The problem is where they get there data from. One link says fires at the 15 year average. But doesn't say that burning has been falling steadily this century. One report says burning 80% up on last year. Most of the major fires are actually along ...
