AIS Leak

No surprise to me, but may be of note to those who like to get their news about Thailand from sources other than the BP.

Diving in, hasn't the pandemic outed super successful Singapore as a kind of caste society?

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia

There's a new video from Australian Ambassador McKinnon concerning repatriation flights from Thailand to Australia that might be of interest to those from that neck of the world. I believe it's from 22 May. It should be available on the embassy link.

Re: Reporting from Across the Pacific

During our dinner discussion, we talked about places like Cambodia (Vietnam, China, etc?) opening up to tourists. I realize that places like Vietnam have some catching up to do on the tourism-infrastructure side, but they've got a gazillion miles of beach and jungle to satisfy the appetite of touris...

Progress. https://www.bangkokpost.com/ Cambodia opening flights from the US. Barber shops open in Texas.....I got the 2 1/2 month shag carpet on top of my head (mostly to the rear of the top) trimmed. Still complaining about haircut prices in Udon? Stop! On the positive side, the barbress cut my hai...

Re: USA Stores Going Under

Admittedly not for the faint of heart, but a friend of our daughter's (a professionally trained Mercedes mechanic who now works on his own) bought a 2015 M Class, fully loaded on ecarone.com in 2016 with 17,000 miles. At the time, the ad on the website included about 60 photos and details. He bought...

Re: USA Stores Going Under

When my daughter buys something on Amazon and wants to return it, she notifies Amazon, no excuse needed, prints out the return shipping label provided by Amazon, throws it in a box, and drops it off at a nearby mailing facility. The clerk scans in the return label and she's refunded. Simple simple

Re: USA Stores Going Under

I think Amazon struggled with making a profit for several years, then didn't make much profit for several later. As for a car, our daughter and a few of her friends have bought cars on line, new and second hand. Another of her friends search for older cars and trucks online in drier climates, fix as...

I don't think a millennial would be caught alive in the likes of JC Penny or Sears. You're doomed to fail if you haven't changed your business model in umpteen years.

I'm not sure if the address is current, but this is what pops up on the Edward Snowdon all-inclusive list of important information. His address is #3. Same address confirmed at the bottom of the page at https://www.glonstruct.com/TH/Udon-Thani/194050620774127/%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%A3%E0%...

I switch between Thai and English on my English only keyboard......gboard for English, swiftkey for Thai. You can choose to display the keyboards on a touchscreen or choose to blindtype the letters as you choose.

Re: Reporting from Across the Pacific

I forgot to add to thoughts to my last report: First, for years I talked about cremations in Thailand, always talking about pushing the body into the 'crematorium' as the final act at the funeral. Today, I learned that the name of the incinerator is a 'retort'. Learn something new everyday. Finally,...

Re: Reporting from Across the Pacific

Still marooned in Texas, time for an update on thoughts about the pandemic: Our May return flight was cancelled, and we rescheduled for June. That was also cancelled a few days ago. This is the conundrum we're in now.....are we going in July/August/2021/2025 or possibly never? There's not a หมอดูู ...

Re: Reporting from Across the Pacific

You've summed up how I'm feeling Parrot. I'm missing Thailand but the "new" Western world makes you look at things with a rosy tint and consider options. Life is laid back at the moment but, things will get back to normal and the Western world will, for me at least, soon lose its appeal. Likewise w...

Re: Reporting from Across the Pacific

Closing in on May with our 7 May return date cancelled and no immediate idea of when we'll be allowed to return......the mental gymnastics wheel continues to turn. Is it time to consider cashing in the chips on our nearly 24 year vacation in Thailand? We're not prepared to do that......yet......but ...

Re: Truck rental

If you have a Thai wife or partner, maybe check out those FB sites that tout local sales, rentals and services? A lot of these pickups seen traveling about are on one-way hires, running people of stuff they've bought to Bahn Nork. That way you get a driver as well and are absolved of all risk, anxi...

Re: What will happen to hotel/restaurant/bar prices?

Just for perspective.......the average price for a bowl of noodle soup or similar Thai lunch meal has ranged between 30-60 Baht for more than a few years.....you want more than a stool or a hefty bowl or a good array of veggies or AC, you'll pay more, obviously. The price has remained stable over th...
