Re: scrimping tips for us hard hit brits

I'm out of line here making a suggestion.....as I'm not a Brit and don't care to be one, but I'll make a suggestion nonetheless: All you guys tipping at small restaurants. Stop it, please! You're ruining it for the rest of us. Okay maybe in a pub/bar where you're trying to impress the girls/staff, b...

Reduced international calling card rates

According to the latest CAT newsletter, CAT phone card rates to the US, Canada, China, Singapore, and HongKong are only 1 baht per minute! That's half of what the old cheap rates were. And compared to 12 years ago when the rates were 55 baht per minute..............it's progress! Rates to 13 other c...

Re: Filthy Looking Government Water by gulfman on December 26, 2008, 12:05 am I'm with you Wokka, we buy at 10 baht per 25litres (delivered to the door) for drinking and cooking. At that price why would anyone want to bother with drinking government water? When we lived downtown, we bought the 25 li...

deisel and B5

I've heard two reports recently of people who are having problems with the engines in their pickup trucks. They're blaming their use of the cheaper B5 fuel. Anyone out there have any comments....good bad or otherwise about the fuel?

Re: Sal Arcado In Hospital

I stopped by to visit Sal in ICU on Sunday at noon. He was awake and looked alert. He was yakking away about his air traffic control days.......but he didn't respond to my questions or know who I was. On the positive side, he's doing leg therapy out of bed (with lots of assistance) and apparently oc...

Re: Gas Oven

As you're going from the center circle to the clock circle, on the right hand side about half-way between circles, there's a 3-story appliance store (name escapes me) with the blue half-circle plastic covering by the door. On the third floor there are Sanyo and Whirlpool stoves. About 7000-ish baht....

Re: Future Udon Thani

Perhaps one way of viewing Udon's future (next 10 years) is to look at its recent past. 12 years ago, Udon didn't have Lotus, Global House, Home Mart, Index (the big one), Home Pro, Sizzler, bowling (none!), Dairy Queen, a university, or an awful lot of traffic. There were no swimming pool stores in...

15 baht for thatch? Last I heard, a piece was going for 5-6 baht in the kilo 18 area. There may be different degrees of quality, but the stuff they make in my neighborhood seems to last for a good year to two.

?tortillas? and rottis at Makro

Markro is carrying a variety of rotti bread (onion and garlic among others) and what looks like tortillas. In the frozen food section near the meats. Oh, in case anyone's looking for a bunny rabbit with the eyes still afixed, Makro is carrying that as well. Also in the frozen food section

Re: English Speaking Bank staff in Udon

Go to the Siam Commercial Bank on Phosri Rd. Assuming you're a falang-looking falang, Khun Mantana (Noi) will probably walk over to you and ask how she can help. She's the branch manager....speaks excellent English. She's probably the oldest staff member at the bank......easy to pick out in case she...

Re: Nong Khai Immigration - Good Service

We got our 12th annual visa last month....same as everytime.....not much in the way of smiles, but no hassles either. Sometimes the wait is longer than normal, but all things considered, a visit to a DMV office for a license renewal back in the US is more of a pain that redoing annual visas in Nongk...
