Re: Internatinal Wire Transfer (from USA)
Interesting. I have never attempted a cash advance. Are you required to have an account at the bank or can do at any bank? I've done the ATM debit card cash advance at the Bankok bank 2nd floor without having an account there. That was last November, I don't know if the policy is still the same. I ...

Re: Thai Driving license
I just renewed my one year to a 5 (actually 6) year license. Since I rent, I had to go to the US embassy in Bangkok to get a affidavit of residence. Easy to do everything there if you don't mind a trip to Bangkok! Here's the trip report: Booked a late flight to Bangkok and a room at the Nana hotel. ...

Re: Non Imm-O for retirement from Vientiane
Just being over age 50 should do it. That said he has an Embassy letter so I would make a copy and take them just in case. If there is a problem he can obtain a tourist visa and covert that to non immigrant in Bangkok (Nong Khai I don't believe offers change service). Well I meet that requirement, ...

Non Imm-O for retirement from Vientiane
I went to the Nong Khai immigration office and was told I cannot apply for a extension of stay for retirement using my non-imm type ED visa. I was instructed to go get a non-imm-O for retirement at a Thai embassy and come back to apply for the extension. I plan to go to Laos next week to apply for a...

Re: Aek Udon Hospital Dental Clinic
So you must have gotten your tooth fixed elsewhere. Where are you getting dental treatment now? I recently went to Aek to fix a filling that broke off and took about 50% of the tooth with it. The Dentist put in a temporary filling and told me I needed a crown and possibly a root canal. I'm scheduled...

Re: Bank of America and Bangkok Bank
To bad about the B of A agreement. That was the best deal I've seen for getting your money here. I was going to set up an account with them and Bkk bank, but to late now. Ron, I use wire transfers to keep those fingers from going too deep into my pockets. Of the 3 ways I've gotten money here (ATM, V...

Re: Sin Sod, marry in udon
I have attended one village wedding, so I'm no expert and I can't say this is what yours would or should be like. I belive every situation, wedding, and sin sod is diffrent, but this is what I saw: The girl (late 20's and with one child) met her falang groom (early 50's) in Phuket and has been livin...

Re: Why You Come Thailand?
(My apologies to all you British rock fans for that last post).
I've found that most young Thais wearing t-shirts featuring British or American bands don't even know who the bands are. They just liked the way the t-shirt looks.

Well said Gallee. You also have to factor in that a lot of guys around Udon are nutjobs... Parade during morning rush hour
Saw a parade today at 8AM on Posri Road. Complete with marching band, Thai costumes and lots of school kids carrying signs. The police were out stopping traffic. Seemed like a odd time to have a parade on a weekday when people are trying to get to work. Is today a holiday?

Re: Luggage from BKK to Udon Thani
I've shown up twice in Bangkok with diffrent airlines dragging 50-70kg of luggage. Both times were no problem. Just paid for the extra weight. Like you said, they won't guarantee, so it would be wise to have a back-up plan. Their should be some cargo service in the airport for just such situations I...

You can book the flight from Heathrow through BKK to Udon on Thai airways with a 3 hour stop in BKK. They will need to take the shuttle bus from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang.

Hi Sorry - I meant the 11th (Tuesday). It would be better if students pre-register, however if you turn up on the first day, you can join the class. Are you interested in beginner, intermediate or advanced? Hi Nick, Thanks for the answer. Put me down for the intermediate class. I'll come in and reg...
