Welcome Dan,

It will depend on where you are and if you and the person you want to send money to have a bank a/c.

If you are outside Thailand and you both have a bank a/c, usually a telegraphic transfer would be quick and not expensive. You would need to know the recipients (receiver's) bank details.

If you are within Thailand, you can pay in at a branch of the same or any other bank, or if you have a Thai bank a/c and ATM card you could transfer at any Thai bank ATM, as long as the recipient (receiver) has a bank a/c.

If they don't have a bank a/c, Western Union maybe your easiest solution, although expensive.

Thank you, I am in the states. My wife has an account at The Thai Farmers bank. I am not on the bank account if that matters.

agree with that. (if you are in uk)
Bank transfer for express transaction,ฃ25.00 usually48 hrs or less,
Standard Transfer's cheaper.about 4-5 days ( UK bank).
She must have bank account.
never used western union, but there is places in Udon you can send to.
and i believe they are the fastest ????
For non-emergancy's stick with Bank Standard.

I don't think Thai Farmers Bank exists any longer, I'm pretty sure it was renamed as Kasikorn Bank a few(?) years ago.

If it is Kasikorn Bank you want, their English website may help:

You don't need to be a party to her bank a/c. Just go to your bank in the States and tell them her bank details and how much you want to send.

Incidentally, Thai Farmer bank is now known as Kasikorn bank.

You would need to know her bank a/c number, bank name and branch and ideally the "Swift Code", which would be something like: TFBTHBK (?)

THe best way to esnd money Thailand is to give your TGF your bank card. That way you get interbank rates and just pay a small fee for each withdrawal (normal ฃ1).

SCB English language site:
SCB Branches page Udon:

In addition, a small branch opened in the Charoensi Complex on the ground floor (first floor for Americans) last year but does not appear to be listed on the branches page.

Western Union is indeed the fastest, 10minutes being my experience but it is possibly the dearest as well. They charge an exorbitant fee to send and give a ridiculous exchange rate on collection, currently pound66+, dollar36+

Yes there are branches or sub-branches in both Charoensri shopping centre and Big C, as well as many ATM's in those and other locations.

Does anyone remember the thread where we were discussing US to LOS transfers within a Thai bank? I think it was Bangkok bank that had a branch in New York and has one of the US "Routing Identifiers" instead of a SWIFT code.

AS I prepare to move I want to get this started and discover any bugs in the system. Currently we have a SCB acount but I was going to open an acount with this other bank in September and start to use it for the next year.
