Should Bars provide ice for free when buying long neck beers

No as it adds to the cost of the bar and beer prices will rise again, defeating my reason for buying long necks

Should Ice be free with Long Necks

Postby wazza » November 21, 2010, 10:57 am

This seems to be a topical question also.

Some people buy long necks to keep the price down, but they get warmer and then wish to use ice to chill the beer again.

I have voted " Shirt lifters" Not that is my opinion but the other alternatives definitely weren't. But I must admit to wondering why some drinkers put copious amounts of ice in any beverage .

Where I come from we use a fridge for that, doesn't dilute the alcoholic content .

Thank you for reminding me Jack. I remember now . On my last trip there I observed them putting many multi coloured little plastic balls, straight from the freezer, full of frozen liquid in the beer . It looked rather strange seeing pink and blue balls in the beer but I just put it down to another quirk amongst the many seen on my travels to the New World .

You should get out more often Val - it broadens your horizons. :D

I read about the frozen coloured ball thing somewhere, but I thought it only happened in gay S/M clubs.

ps doesn't matter how much ice you put in an alcoholic drink, the content of alcohol will main exactly the same - even in single malt whiskeys/whiskies.

Are there no beer coolers fore large botles ;-) I have see them in every shape, even glasses with dobbel partitions liquid between and straight from the freezer.

And why should i drink a smaller botle iff i,m verry thirsty? Iff the bar don,t have them, ok, i go somewhere else, no problem ...

I would have though that the beverage companies, in this case the overwhelming choice for long necks in Udon seems to be Leo would have supplied to their outlets and wholesale customers the larger beer cooler with their logo .

They are the ultimate owners of the product and know what sells and where.

Have Leo supplied them, well i havent seen any , so a conclusion to be draw from their action, would be that the Thais dont use them, use ice and drink at home etc or at places in groups where I have seen them drinking large Leos.

Expats tend to drink in their choices of places and have their own drink, the Thais when out and drinking beer , tend to share it, therefore its not getting warm , dont suffer from Hyperthermia related C2H5OH.

Because Leo sales show they arent worth introducing to Udon, as they dont turn over enough.

The company who makes the beer also knows where they sell it.

But Frans, then u need to increase the price of the Large beers ? to cover your costs to buy them, travel to Pattaya, stay there and return, lets say that is 10,000 including sampling afew beers.

Based on owning a non air con bar for 1 year and open 350 days a year ( excluding the Thai holidays where alcohol sales are forbidden )

Ur selling 15 large Leos per day - thats say 5250 bottles per year, u need to recover in ur first year 10, 000 Baht just for the coolers.

Thats approximately 2 baht extra or 2 baht less on your margins already.

That bar would now need a name change to 2 Baht Beer Bar

If I want to stay in the one bar for a longer time, I might well drink a large bottle or two and maybe add ice.
If I want to circulate and check out other places I drink small ones or shorts.
If I'm thirsty I drink water, or put ice in my beer. ;)
