Siam Commercial Bank

Postby joudon » March 11, 2011, 5:59 am

On 3 occasions recently I have tried to withdraw money using my passport and a UK Nationwide card. Twice in the complex and once at their branch in the new Tescos. Each time I was informed that the card would not work in their card reader. Funnily enough it did work in their Atm's at bt150 a go. Yesterday I took the same card plus passport to Kasikorn bank and was able to get the cash ok. Question , is SCB pursuing a policy of forcing people to use the Atm's at Bt150 per go?Has anyone else had this problem.?

Don't know about that, but do not like Siam Commercial, seem to always have a hidden charge.

All banks in Thailand charge for everything! SCB certainly NO hidden charges all upfront and very easy to do business with in my experience, have had many accounts with them over the last 10 years.

Oddly, I've only had this problem K-bank.

I typically use SCB in Big C and never had any issues.

I have noted that they (SCB) always charge 100 baht for a branch issued statement or letter, yet Bangkok Bank do them free.

What does Nationwide charge you for cash advances from abroad when they hit your account,1 or 2 % on the amount, and with APR's charged anything up to 20% on credit cards, would these costs outweigh the better exchange rate inside a bank and the avoidance of 150 baht fee,if say you use a debit card in an atm?

Personally SCB were good in the past but Kasikorn Bank seem to be more customer friendly.

SCB years ago had issues with International cards, both debit and credit and didnt honour them etc

My HSBC debit card was an example.

They are know to tbe the least friendly for international services .

I would actually email ur UK Nationwide Card Provider and ask the question as the banks V's the ATMs could have different codes embedded on the digital strip.

Do know which branch you've had bad experiences with. I've used the services at the Big C branch for the past 4 years and it's never been easier and they've taken my debt card without question. I've also used my Thai driver's license in lieu of my passport without any problems.
