Sarah Palin makes gaffe, saying North Korea is US ally

Answering questions from host Glenn Beck she said, "Obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies."

The conservative US website The Weekly Standard came to Ms Palin's defence, pointing out that "she correctly identified North Korea as our enemy literally eight seconds before the mix-up".

but at least someone is talking sense in the Bush family.
Former First Lady Barbara Bush recently said that Ms Palin should "stay in Alaska" rather than run for president.

Well the person we have now promised all kinds of new directions for america while he was running. After being elected we have the same Bush/Cheney policies. Some of which he has even gone further with, just look at the justice department court filings.

So Palin or no Palin in 2013, I see No difference. I wonder who is really running the country. For from president to president, not much changes. Just glad I left years ago.

Is David Edward Sutch still around - he would make the perfect political advisor to Sarah, and the rest of the Tee Party. :D

Although there is a possibility that Sarah Palin might gain the Republican nomination for President in 2012, her chances of being elected are about as close to zero as it is possible to get.

The 2010 mid-term election demonstrated that while seriously flawed candidates are capable of gaining the party nomination in closed primaries, they are simply not capable of appealing to a large enough proportion of the electorate as a whole in a general election to become elected.

The problem for the GOP leadership is that while they know that she is unelectable, the ideological fundamentalists in the party love her and the ideologues do have a considerable voice in nominating their next candidate - especially where there are closed primaries.

Ideological fundamentalists, whether from the left or right, are not electable in a general election.

The electorate as a whole are not as dumb as the political comment columns in the media appear to indicate – the comments are mainly from deranged obsessive political junkies of the rabid right and the loony left who only represent a tiny proportion of US voters.

I hope that you are correct Jimbo...
I think that many American voters are (rightly) more than a little disillusioned with how the President's words during the campaign have failed to materialise into any sort of actions that follow up on them.
I think (unless something remarkable happens over the next couple of years) that a Democrat will find it very difficult to win the next Presidential election - no matter who he/she is. It might not be that people will switch allegiance I think that they just will not bother to vote.
Whoever stands as a Republican candidate is going to have a better than even money chance of being the next President - even if that happens to be someone that the majority of voters would find has 'extreme' views, once the media campaigns get under way to sanitise them...

That really doesn't mean anything, though. Everybody slips up. Even Obama has made more than his share of the slips of the tongue. How quick and hard the media jumps on it depends on how ill-favored the individual is to the particular publication.

There is only one scenario which could make Sarah Palin electable and that would be if the Democratic leadership were dumb enough to start making sustained personal attacks on her – and there are no signs of that.

It is notable that there is almost a total absence of attacks on Sarah Palin from the Democratic leadership - I believe that this is part of the Democrats strategy to retain the Presidency in 2012; they view Sarah Palin gaining the GOP nomination as giving them their easiest run.

In my opinion, the Democratic leadership believe that once she has the nomination that the most politically effective weapon against Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin herself.

If Sarah Palin were to gain the 2012 GOP nomination she would no longer be able to hide behind Facebook and Twitter and would have to respond to real questions from the media in general rather than the cherry picked softball questions on Fox News that she is currently getting :-k

Candidates that hid from the media in the mid-terms (e.g. Sharron Angle in Nevada) suffered badly in the polls - Sarah Palin had apparently advised Sharron Angle (and some others) that they should only appear on Fox News

I don't like Obama,I dislike Palin more,I think JimboPSM comments are spot on about the Republicans, but I wouldn't put Palins chances near zero. She has a 30% base among the extreme and some moderate Republicans, but unless their is a major flub by the democrats,Obama will probably squeeze out a victory over her!

If the race is between Palin and Obama,America will fall farther into the abyss,Obama with his wealth distribution policies and Palin because she is such a dunce! Both extremists,in my view! [-X

I'm a retired military conservative and wouldn't give Sarah Palin the time of day... I figure if a prospective presdiential (or formerly vice-presidential) candidate cannot answer relatively simple political, international, or historical questions that I know the answer to, then they've got to be a yutz and a half and NOT deserve the politcial adulation they get. In Palin's case, I'll give her credit for populist attraction and being able to ginn up the "base" but in the big picture she's a dip-shit..

I agree, for one I will not go to the expense to support another Obama Administration. If during the primaries someone throws their hat in, like a Senator Russ Feingold, then I will change my mind and throw him my support, just hope this time, I am not thrown under the bus.

From the comments, it appears as though the Republican strategy of fillibustering everything and saying no to anything else is working. The dopies are falling for it. Republicans block everything and all people remember is that nothing gets done. Nobody remembers why and nobody bothers to care that they, the Republicans, have no plan other than a continuation of the same failed policies that put us where we are in the first place! The strategy is brilliant for it's reliance on stupid and dopey people to make it work. And God help us all, it appears to be working perfectly.

Disclosure: I'm atheist.
