Fascinating only for those with a very short attention span, and no sense of perspective. :(

hmmmmm..... that's why this article have been shared/spread amongst social media and marketing groups on different social platforms. They all have 'short attention span, and no sense of perspective'.

@Jack, more engagement with a new tool, also for example for dating :D
Today, Facebook announced a major new search product called Graph Search. (Here's the inside story of the launch.) A few thoughts:

* This is, of course, primarily a threat to Google. Facebook's search bar has long been terrible; now it will be pretty interesting. I remember being stunned, years ago, that Facebook wouldn't even let me, for example, figure out which friends of mine lived in Philadelphia, if I was heading there for a weekend. Now it can do that. And Facebook has tons of data that it doesn't allow Google to index.

* It's also, however, a threat to lots of other small companies. It will allow you to search for single people near you, which could take business from dating sites, and it could also help you search for job candidates—which might hurt this site.

* The biggest problem, of course, is privacy. There's lots of stuff that we put on our Facebook pages that we don't want to be entirely private but that we want to be hard to find. For example: our relationship status, perhaps. It's one thing for someone browsing your profile to figure out your status, it's another to have it suddenly popping up in search. There are going to be horror stories.

* The name is terrible. It's confusing (what does a "graph" have to do with search?) and alienating ("graph" is not a word with positive connotations).

In sum, it's a risky launch, and a partially flawed one. But my sense is that, if this works well, it's going to make Facebook substantially more powerful and more useful.

Facebook pushed out an update to Facebook Messenger this week that allows users to call Facebook friends for free. The feature requires that both parties have the Messenger app installed on their phones, and then allows calls to be placed over cellular networks or Wi-Fi. When calls are made, they look and feel similar to traditional phone calls.

So, also over cellular networks  :drunk: (BB voice call for example, only with WIFI)

I don't know what that is but lets face it, Mooo's or Mooo's you probably need Facebook if you have B2C activities.
Some say they have lost 15million users, some say it will reach 1billion soon.

Coming back to above post of voice call, let's say that UM, a Facebook user, decides to sell some gadgets. A Mooo wants to order and is lazy to fill in the order form or have some questions and also lazy to to fill in form or send an email. And that Moo have only a handphone and there is a system within UM that an incoming call will be directed to an available sales employee during certain hours. Yes @Jack, besides online engagement also direct engagement and direct sales (worldwide) hehehehe......

A typo ....first sentence Moo's or NOT Moo's. With desktop you can with the current Facebook messenger voice and video chat, so no need to use handphone. But according to some the mobile traffic will next year be higher than desktop traffic.

Envy the cause behind frustration

Post by harmonyudon » January 22, 2013, 10:24 am

Scientific Study amongst Facebook users
Project manager Dr. Hanna Krasnova, who is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Humboldt-Universität, explained that, "Although respondents were reluctant to admit feeling envious while on Facebook, they often presumed that envy can be the cause behind the frustration of "others" on this platform -- a clear indication that envy is a salient phenomenon in the Facebook context. Indeed, access to copious positive news and the profiles of seemingly successful 'friends' fosters social comparison that can readily provoke envy. By and large, online social networks allow users unprecedented access to information on relevant others -- insights that would be much more difficult to obtain offline." Those who do not engage in any active, interpersonal communications on social networks and primarily utilize them as sources of information, e.g. reading friends' postings, checking news feeds, or browsing through photos, are particularly subject to these painful experiences.

I am wondering if this is also the care in other platforms like fora.... :-k :-k

They may have yelled before, but now they have megaphones. Whether they’re bashing or praising your products and your brand, customers are online and louder than ever. And right now, they’re on forums, review sites, Facebook and Twitter, sending out thousands of uncensored opinions—that could have major consequences. Take for example last year, when one unhappy client ended up spurring a massive PR catastrophe for retail chain David’s Bridal. Her single Facebook post (describing a lousy experience at her local David’s outlet), received an astonishing 125,140 likes and 11,000 comments and led to thousands more complaints being posted on the company’s Facebook page—along with a mass call for boycotting the brand altogether.

I have a facebook account.....but I also have 150 and counting ''friends'' in waiting. If our daughter didn't have a facebook account, I wouldn't. And now our daughter is using facebook less and less.....growing tired of trying to keep her smörgåsbord of friends updated with multiple-daily updates of her and them doing the same with our daughter.

I wouldn't be writing the obit for facebook just yet, but given the propensity of the younger generation to move on to bigger and better things, I won't be surprised if it becomes another myspace in short order.

separate subject but related to tech: Charlie Rose interviewed the head of ebay a few nights ago.....John Donahoe about the success of the e-commerce business. His secret? Disruptive Thinkers......young people who don't know any better......
if they knew any better, they wouldn't start. They grew up with mobile.
The can imagine things that we can't imagine, they don't know any better so they go for it, they try.
Interesting times lie ahead!

In another topic we went off topic discussing social media. I feel that most of you have an aversion against social media and Facebook and post only failed (business) stories. I differ from your opinion cause if you use SM well it can be an advantage for your business. It doesn't necessary have to result in increase in sales, for example brand awareness can be also a reason to use SM.

Let me show you 3 examples of success stories:
Lacoste has had a presence on Facebook for a few years as a popular French fashion label. In it’s 2011 campaign, Lacoste wanted to generate more traffic to their website and increase their sales. The company ran a two month campaign with about 100 varying advertisements linked directly to their website. The company targeted people based on location, gender, age, and Likes and Interests. Lacoste broke down ads to fit men or women, ages 18 to 25 or 25 to 44, and Germany, England, or France.

Results:

Lacoste saw an increase in online sales
The ads received 43 million, 66 million, and 70 million impressions in the UK, Germany, and France respectively
Lacoste’s conversion rate for this campaign had a 500 percent increase from its previous Facebook ad campaign
Luxury Link ran Facebook Ads that offered travel packages for people interested in upscale getaways. They marketed a live chat with a Caribbean travel expert. The ads were targeted at married people interested in Chanel, Fendi official Page, Prada and Starbucks. Here is a sample of the ad copy used: “Get 65% offa luxury vacation. Book your dream getaway today!”

Results:

100% increase in sales for travel packages coming from Facebook
30% increase in site visits month over month from Facebook
Mazda UK began their presence on Facebook with a check-in deal that allowed consumers to take 20% off a Mazda MX-5 Miyako when they checked into a dealership on Facebook. The company began to promote this competition through Facebook Marketplace Ads. After seeing the success with this promotion, Mazda extended the competition, and it created a new competition that allowed winners to win and drive a Mazda MX-5 for 5 months. These two competitions reached consumers in and out of the market for a new car. The promotions were both advertised on Facebook through Marketplace Ads.

Results:

February sales were increased by 34%
Mazda sold 100 special model Mazda MX-5 Miyakos in the first two weeks of the Check-In Deal.
742 people checked into Mazda dealerships in the U.K. 162 people entered into the giveaway competition.
Mazda made news with major news sources in Europe including BBC News, The Telegraph, The Daily Mirror, Which?, and MSN Tech.

Many many other success stories otherwise Facebook and other platforms are not popular. They are still growing.

You go to a pub and meet and talk to people. Between the lines you say you have a shop at nongsim and perhaps you get new customers. It can ruin your life when you start an affair with one of the gorgous staff of that pub or a weirdo start to punch you in the face. You have good and bad stories online and in d real world.

Yes, but in a pub you see the real person, face to face & have an opportunity to weigh up what you think about them before you even speak to them. Plus, if you cannot spot 'the nutter' in a pub then you are a pretty poor judge of character & possibly deserve the assault. If you decide to have an affair with one of the staff then that is a decision shrouded in actuality &, possibly, alcohol but still a decision based on facts not some fictitious half world where more lies are told than truths..

My point was, is that pub only a pub for weirdo's? It can be a good pub. Facebook have weirdo's members but it is not only for weirdo's. Many presidents, prime ministers, other VIP's, CEO's have a Facebook page...some of them are weirdo's indeed ...hehehe ...joking....
