Arriving on a tourist visa, one will get 60 days + 30 days extension.... and as a tourist you will most likely hire a vehicle.... and a different insurance policy.

Maybe its time for some of you to make a reality check and go back to your original countries to experience what self serving regulations do to your own lifestyle. 8)

''No solution critic''?

Stan: The solution is quite simple: Live and let live.

Solutions are only needed by those people who find things to be untennable with their own standards and morals. Once someone has that attitude - then they are looking for solutions to make things better for themselves without any regard for others.

But Doc did respond about how I would have.

I really don't understand this constant need to run other people's lives. This feeling one has a "right" to never suffer any inconvenience or discomfort. Must be a baby boomer thing. If the WW2 generation was the greatest, the baby boomers are the worst.

" The world improvers are not interested in private acts of kindness or innovation that might actually make their world better. Instead, they want to remake the world, by staging great public spectacles that flatter their own amour propre. They propose a ban on world hunger - without planting a single turnip. They take up the cause of "freedom" in other countries - and force the liquor store next door to close on Sunday. They insist so strongly on better treatment for women in the Islamic world, they forget to kiss their wives. Like Alexander the Great, they stare out the window at the big, wide world and wonder how they can make it more appealing, while their closest friends drop dead unnoticed. "Thy love afar," as Emerson put it, "is spite at home.""

OK guys I was talking about a motorcycle if you can tell me where I can get #1 insurance on one, I think this is a great plan other wise I will go with plan A. Your not going to get a lot of service for a limited liability policy, that cost less then 200 baht a year. Unless your embassy is a lot different then mine I'm afraid you are going to be on your own. But everyone should do what they think is rigth please post the results so we can all learn.

In my pickup I would in fact do as suggested, I woudln't even think of it on the bike.

I have believe me, if anyone ever runs across one I would really like to know about it. The only policy I have been able to locate thus far is a limited liability. covers injuried third parties only. No collision, no comp, no medical, no theft coverage, no uininsured motorist. Interestingly enough it did cover my wife in our accident a she was a passenger. In the states family members are normally excluded in this type of policy. So it's not without it's merit

But when it's time to set down with the local Police and try to reach settlement, they will not be there to hold your hand. AEK is set up for this sort of accidents and they handled that aspect of it for us.

I'm not one to take legal matters lightly, especially somewhere where I really don't know the law and how it truly functions. Throw in all the rumors about go away ,money. I was more then happy to part with 3K for the legal representation. I knew exactly what I was dealing with I was given the proper information and allowed to make my own decesion.

I was driven to the Police Station by AEK to file report after emergency treatment and then admitted to the hospital. So I wasn't exactly in the best looking condition when I made that report. Guess what the reporting officer said to me well you can go have more whiskey now. It' 1:00 P.M. and I don't even drink. Im a realist in these kind of matters this cop had a peconcieved view of me, based on the drunken farrangs he has dealt with. Not a good place to start.

The investigating officer was much more professional. I can't tell you how things would have went without my lawyer there, but they went just fine for me with her there. Frankly I could have pushed the issue and gotten a lot more then what I agreed to. However what I settled for was what was fair, to me and that is good enough.

So I suppose even without the number one policy I did allright, paid 200 baht for the policy and 3K for the lawyer, thats a lot less then what I pay for number one insurance on the truck.

The entire point of this post was leave your wallet at home in these situations, don't jump to make it go away, that really works against you right or wrong. Thais and Thai cop have certain views of us, just as we do of them. One simple word can change all that " NO"

This was also posted on a bikers board number one insurance for a bike never even came up, because we have all looked for it. Some of these guys have over a million in thier bikes, yes they want the inurance no one has found it yet that I know of. I would love to have that on my bike, I don't have that kind of money in my bike but do have more then 37K in it and would love to have the coverage. So if anyone runs across it please post it.
