Songkran 2009

Postby Khun Paul » March 31, 2009, 6:19 am

Having just visted Nong Prajak yesterday 300309, I saw a large sign which stated Smoking ( fine THB 2000) drinking ( fine THB 10000 ) , now I knew the govt was thinking of banning drinking but the smoking is a new one on me.
OIn fact having also just viewed the Nation, this morning 310309, I saw that the complete ban has been dropped but there will be greter enforcement by stops and checkpoints. A ban on drinking in public places could be implemented by local authorites , BUT nothing about smoking.
It IS GOING TO BE WONDERFULL EVENT not, when lifes little pleasures are being removed especially in a large OPEN AIR public place like Nong Prajak.
The question that springs to mind is how they are going to police this event, no smoking or drinking will probably be easy as noone will go there, I am thinking.
Views please.

Smoking in a public place was banned approximately 18 months ago. This includes not only bars, restaurants and shops but also public parks etc.

However its also illegal to drive a motorbike without a safety helmet !!!

How do you keep your cigarettes alight when you are having buckets of water thrown over you?

Yes I agree Galee - need someone to produce a cigarette product similar to the "re-lighting candle". :D :D

Keep your Motorcycle helmut 'on'....pull visor down..place tab in one corner of mouth...puff out the smoke from other corner of mouth, the visor will act as a shield thus keeping the wet at bay so it should.. if all goes to plan, keep the cigarette burning.Image

I thought a ban on smoking was in effect? I was in a little Thai restaurant the other day
and another farang of all people fired-up a couple tables away and I thought, that's kind
of like rude? I mean, I have an occasional cigarette myself don't think me a prude but when
you're trying to eat and someone else's smoke is wafting over you, it's just too much? 8-[
