Sony has won a restraining order in the USA against people who were distributing - on the net - methods by which pirated games could be played on their PS3 games consul. It is related to 'security codes' embedded within the consul. Sony says that the releasing of these codes is a violation of its copywrite & amounts to fraud.
The main man behind the hack is a gentleman named George Hotz & the judge also ordered that he handed over his computers to Sony within 10 days.
When Sony first said it was bringing a case few believed that it could possibly win. Indeed those defending Mr. Hotz say that a Californian court has no jurisdiction over him as he is a resident of New Jersey. The plan to appeal on that fact alone.
Sony are also seeking damages as they say the release of the hack has seriously damaged their sales of genuine games.
It will be interesting to see how this battle between 'freedom' & 'piracy' gets resolved.
