Spring ROLLS not up to par

Postby Duncan » October 16, 2008, 6:04 pm

Now, no problem, correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought a Spring Roll should sort of break into crispy pieces when cut.

Not my expericence yesterday . I could have used the 3 rolls as supports for my new house.

Enter the Waitress from " What? Am I Meant To Be Serving You? ".

These are no good said I. Pleae Take them back.

Enter the Waitress from " What? You Want Service Again?"

No I don't want to take them home. I want you to take them away.

Enter the Waitress from Attitude School "Here's Ya Bill"

Could I see the Manger, Boss, Shift Somebody as I would really like to speak to them about the Rolls? (said in Thai, by a Thai)

Enter the Waitress from I Don't Speak Thai, " No one here"

Exit me and my friends, less paying for the Rolls (after an ammended bill), never to return.

Sad really, because the Full Eng Breakfast was out of this world - the Black Pud rocks :)

Duncan, I think that is a pretty typical experience in Thailand if you want to complain when the Farang owner (or some Thai owners) isn't actually on the premises at that time.
Sometimes, I know, you don't actually get a much better response from the owner :D (& that is when I take my custom elsewhere on a permanent basis) but even competent Thai staff seem bewildered when faced with a complaint.
I think even if you have a good business model & offer a service that enough customers are willing to support then it is still a difficult task to run a successful business in Thailand. Employing staff in ones home country is a difficult & unrewarding task in Thailand I imagine it is that times 100.

this reminded me of something i read about thailand and i have asked me t/f. in thailand it is not polite to complain or critisize when other people are present as the person you are talking to will lose face. if i am wrong on this would someone explain what you should do in a case like this.

Duncan, we don't usually 'flame' local establishments based on a single visit but sounds like you may have been there before and now you've left the rest of us to try and figure out exactly where it is that we should avoid the spring rolls. Since you did manage to enjoy a portion of your meal possibly you should let us know the name of the place so we can just leave the spring rolls off our order.

As far as I am aware there is only one establishment in Udon that serves black pudding with a Full English Breakfast :D

BOB,

You nearly have it. I am lead to beleive from another Bar/Cafe that the actual Owner is a nice Guy. I just feel a little sad for him, that with Staff with this atitude etc, he will loose more buisness. Okay I am only a party of 3, but when that starts to multiply.....

Better times were had at another Cafe/Bar - the Owner was attentive and helpful when I had a question about where to get the car fixed, where the Golf Courses where etc. mum loved his Apple Pie and Ice Cream.

Also had a wonderful meal at ( can I name the place?), even thou we never understood a word of the other Clientel.(sorry for the spelling, I'm from Yorkshire)

Duncan, you are entitled to name any place you like about anything you like. :D :D It is your opinion and so are entitled to it.

As I said earlier I tend to understand the problem that arises with a complaint if the owner is not there & so, personally, I would not mention the name of the establishment if that was the case. If the owner was there & failed to resolve my problem then it is quite possible I would mention it here.
I think in most establishment in Udon (maybe Thailand) the service is measurably improved just by the owners' presence. Well, if that isn't the case, then I am not a customer there for long.. :D :D

Any recommendations for good food can certainly be mentioned on here, even if they do not sponsor Udonmap - indeed there is a complete section (Where to eat in Udon? - More Places to eat (non sponsors)) just for people to do that.

Okay, here are the Awards:

Most Helpful: Fuzzy Ken (not the Bar, the man)

Good Food: Nobi's

Great Hotel: Ruy Suk Mansion and Joe

Sad Fish n Chips: Seaside 3 (wet as the day it was caught)

Waitress c/w Attitude: Irish Clock

Friendly Atmosphere: Hole In One (think that was the name, the first Bar along the soi next to the Night Market)

Hope to be back soon in UT. Loved the place, but not the cod :)

Agreed about Fuzzy Ken... A man in the know and always helpful. But what was wrong with the restaurant?

Surprised at your comments about the staff in the Irish Clock. Cannot imagine one that has attitude. IMHO all are very pleasant. How long did you stay in Udon? Did you step on the waitresses toes (figuratively speaking) to elicit a negative attitude?
