STI/ STD checks
Hello,
After a bit of an accident in the bedroom, I find myself in need of an STD\ STI check up. more for piece of mind than anything else.
Where in Udon would be the best place to go? can this be done at one of the clinics or will i need to go to a hospital. also what is the waiting time for results.
I have already done a search and trawled through the health forum but nothing was mentioned
Any information would be appreciated, never had to have one before and hopefully will not need again.
thanks in advance

Sometimes I get a little nostalgic for the good old days when "safe sex" was a padded headboard.

Go to AEK Udon. 1800 baht for a complete STD check. I go every year. As should most people. This is amazing Thailand after all. You never know for sure!
STI/ STD checks
Got the all clear which was nice!
went to Panyavejinter and payed just under 1200.
I went early evening on sunday and was all done and dusted within 40 minutes, although the lab was shut for the night so I had to return this morning for the results.
The only difficult part was the initial conversation with the nurses at reception, my thai is not what it should be and I expected their english to be a little better if i am honest. after repeating 'sti test/ std test' and pointing at my groin and being met by 2 totally confused faces I just told them i would like to see the doc. only then was I able to explain what i was after with any sort of success.
Cheers for the help

Moo Moo, Sorry late to say, but there is a clinic in the road of the police station.
Its just couple of doors away from the Post office there.
I went there for a check for colon problem
They have a list of tests they do.
Range from 50 baht to 2.50 baht
So although you have piece of mind, and thats good anyway.
But at 1200 baht thats a rip off!
Next time wear a Jonnie! ;)

Ha! For far less than that, one could buy medication and eliminate almost every potential STD ailment (except HIV, which would take a while to test positive, anyway) and skip the doc altogether. As I recall from my Pattaya single years, it would be:
Azithromycin 1 g orally in a single dose (THB 500?)
and
Cefixime 400 mg orally in a single dose (don't recall price, but was really cheap)
and for good measure,
Metronidazole 2 g orally in a single dose (don't recall price, but was really cheap)
Taken separately over the course of the same day as the "accident", you'd be good to go except for any viral infections - in which case, you are screwed. Go to a clinic and they just hand you a bag full of goodness knows what pills. I recall a lady friend received 3-4 bags of various clinic pills that could have stopped her heart had I not researched them. Never trust a clinic - many haven't a clue...

Have just been to Aek Udon for an std test and was charged a whopping 3,600 baht!! 7,200 for me and my girlfriend. Please avoid these rip-off merchants.

A whole $110 for pathology, that's cheap and it depends on what you were tested for, in that there will be a doctors consultation also, go any where in the west and you will pay four times that amount.Gutterboy wrote: by Gutterboy » October 28, 2014, 2:51 am

Why do people compare prices here to their home country, the aek price is a complete rip off as are most of their prices, this is thailand not us and the prices should be far less, I wnet there only once never again to buy some insulin, they wanted 800 baht to see a doctor etc etc and then double my normal price for the insulin, do not go there they are rip off merchants.

I visited AEK dentist department in 2010 as i lost a filling , i was told i need a lot of work on my teeth !
When i explained i had visited a dentist regulary in the Uk and never had any problems so why are you telling me i need lots of work ? The dentist said its her opinion i replied i will contact my dentist in the Uk and see what he has to say .
I never returned and visited the surgery at the clock circle in Udon and paid seven hundred bahts .
My feeling are AEK saw me as a cash cow and a foolish expat ready to be taken to the cleaners performing work that did not need doing.

When I first came here AEK was the option I chose. I was new and really did not know any better, the forum like now did not exist so it was suck it and see. To be honest for about three years they were reasonable I thought, BUT then all of a sudden they hiked the cost of a room by about 500 baht to pay for nurses, this meant that then I paid extra for BUPA to cover the increase, like Plumbers, I too visited AEK Udon dental department and after some very very painful root canal work which I had to have as they cocked up a filling and the tooth broke in halfand the price I vowed never to enter its halls again. I chose Wattana Hospital, Non Prajak although to be honest the Military hospital is just as good . Bangkok according to friends is good but more expensive than the other two I mentioned .
I did contact BUPA and they seemed to be ina greement with me that AEK was at the top end of the price range. In all honesty unless you have grade A Insurance , AEK Udon is not any longer a foreigner friendly place as it has been said ' Cash Cow 'springs to mind, which makes you think that earning money is more important than healing the sick , to me as long as I get better where I go is for my health NOT to denude my bank account to enrich someone else.
Every test you have their is twice to three times more expensive that other hospitals and I have had a variance of test results from Wattana to AEK, it seemed that AEK erred on the side of caution to ensure you required followup tests. MORE MONEY even the Lab is money orientated.

You got STD treatment on BUPA? I need to check my policy with the company.Khun Paul wrote:...this meant that then I paid extra for BUPA to cover the increase...

Actually, you can get some nasty STD's from oral s e x,so definitely not a case of "suck it and see." :-&
Dental dams are supposed to be a good way of preventing infection.
Reading the text below you should never go out without one......maybe also useful for older chaps over 70 whose gums are inflamed and teeth loose already !
Dental Dam
What is a dental dam?
A dental dam is a thin square of latex that can be used to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections during oral s e x. They can be bought in some stores, or you can make your own using a condom or a latex glove. They are called “dental” dams because they were originally designed as a protective measure for dentists working on a patient’s teeth.
How does a dental dam work?
The dental dam is placed over a woman’s vulva before her partner performs oral s e x on her, and acts as a barrier between her partner’s mouth and her genitals. This helps to prevent sexually transmitted infections from spreading. They can also be used by men or women to prevent STIs while “rimming”, which is oral s e x performed on a partners’ anus.
Performing oral s e x on a woman carries lower STI risks than vaginal s e x, anal s e x or performing oral s e x on a man, but there are still risks of transmitting several STIs. Rimming, by contrast, is much more dangerous, as it carries STI risks (including a risk of Hepatitis A), and can cause several other illnesses because of bacteria or parasite infections.
Remember, sexually transmitted infections can be passed from mouth-to-penis and penis-to-mouth too, so men should wear condoms during oral s e x for protection.
Where can I get dental dams?
Because dental dams are still a relatively new safer-s e x method, so they are not widely available yet. Look for dental dams at your local drugstore, pharmacy or sexual health clinic, or order them online. Some specialty s e x shops may also carry them. Just like condoms, dental dams come in a wide range of flavours and colours, so do some experimenting.
So there you go.....dont be afraid to ask.....just ask any young nurse in an Udon hospital about availability and then you can relax for a session of passionate lovemaking with your partner !
