STUDY: Fox News Viewers

Postby UdonExpat » November 22, 2011, 9:35 am

A previous study of Fox News viewers found them more likely to believe false political information than other news watchers. :^o A recent study shows them less informed than people who don't watch news. :-s

So, if you want to believe political falsehoods and know less than the uninformed, watch Fox News. :badteeth:

Fox News seems less interested in facts than the other news organizations and more interested in presenting a point of view than the others. Of course, all the news organizations are profit making ventures that care more about money than anything else. As a Rupert Murdoch venture Fox News will have the same ethical standards.

In fairness to Fox the questions were about events in the Middle East.
Whenever I have watched it I have always found that it is very USA news centred & that world events get only a passing mention & the slant even then tends to centre on how it will effect the USA.
I suspect that if the questions were based on 'home' news that Fox viewers would fair pretty well - certainly compared to other forms of news.

The question of the bias-slant that the organisation might put on its' news is another question completely.. :D

As can be seen by the current enquiries under way in the UK Mr. Murdoch's organisation (there at least) is guilty of some horrendous acts in the search of 'news'.

Just read the Huffington Post story and went to post it on UD and found UdonExpat beat me to it. I'm just curious as to why people watch Fox News for "news." I mean, the first thing I want to know about my news source is that they are, at least, not flat out lying to me, and Fox News definitely does not qualify on that count. Fox News has admitted in court to trying to force reporters to lie, and when the reporters wouldn't comply, out the door they went.

So many of you state that Fox News isn't worth watching that I wonder what I am missing.

I don't watch tv but do access Fox News almost daily on the internet. I do not notice where they are doing what you describe as lying or just bad news reporting. Like you I do not want to waste my time, be misled or be denied information as to what is going on in the world. Seriously.

I just pulled up Fox News and the lead stoy is "Gun Issue Represents Tough Politics for Obama."

If someone has the time and cares to explain how Fox News is bad, please take a look at today's Fox News and point any problems you have with their news. If not today, another day. Thanks.

I am a little puzzled by your post TJ.
Are you suggesting that the story you quoted (Gun Issue Represents Tough Politics for Obama.) is a positive story for Obama??
Look at the current O'Reilly story on the Fox web page (President Obama's Big Gamble) are you suggesting that this shows the President in a good light??

When the President was Bush all Presidential stories were positive. Anyone who disagreed with the President was always described as being 'unpatriotic'.
Now that the President is Obama all Presidential stories are negative. There is never a hint that opposers of the President are unpatriotic, quite the opposite!!!

To always take the side of one political party is pure bias...

Did you look at the YouTube linked above by rjj?

If so, how can you argue that Fox News is good?

If not, how do you expect to be taken credibly?

As has been demonstrated repeatedly, the Murdoch organisation is a scourge on humanity. Fox is merely the American manifestation of that.

The Dirty Digger (as he is known in his home country) has no low point.

I commented back in March about how Fox News really got their knickers in a twist over their multitudinous stances on Libya:

Thanks for the newshounds link KD.

Some of the guys I know who watch Fox News don't have satellite TV and only have Home Cable. Being Americans they seem to prefer the lies and misrepresentations of Fox News to BBC News or other English language news available to them. Consequently, they have very skewed views on American politics and are irrationally attached to their beliefs that Fox has helped them to form.

I try to watch Fox News from time to time, but my ability to stomach their content is limited. I do check their online news everyday and compare their headlines and stories to the same stories in The Huffington Post, USA Today, and The Guardian. I like to get the various slants on some of the daily news. The online Fox News polls are often hilarious in their obvious bias.
