Postby shortimer » March 19, 2006, 12:45 pm

Has anybody ever stayed at the Surada guesthouse on Posri Road, looked at their web site and it looks nice but photo's can be deceiving. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Wow, this place must either be new or a total dive if no one has any feedback after over 50 views on the subject!!! Well I can hope someone will have some info on the subject, I have some time before I have to commit to booking a room for my visit. But of course I had to pick the same time as the Marine manuevers are in Udon so my choices may be real limited. Hoping for some info......................

ST, I don't know it, and haven't heard of it. I might be able to have a look, if I knew where it was. Do you have the weblink or an address? Phosi Road is very long. :)

Haven't seen the place, tend to spend more time around the lake & northern parts of town, but also hope to hear from someone who's tried the place.

The location Surada Guest House (from the map they have on their webpage) should be in Q14 or Q13 area on Udonmap. Go on their webpage and click on "About Us" and you will see the map. Their map is not really that good but I was able to surmise from, looking on Udonmap, the approximate location. :-k

Shortimer, Ok have just come back from the Surada Guest House, on my way back from a circuitous Big C shopping trip.

Though I've never seen it before, it is exactly as her map shows under the "Contact us" webpage, that is immediately behind the Aviva Insurance company. I think it is fairly new.

There's a track to the side of the Insurance company, between it and the railway line, which leads to a cul-de-sac with about 10 shop house units in a row. Her Guest House is the first two shop house units, immediately behind the Insurance Company, which are painted cream as opposed to white like the others and that is the only indication that the place is a Guest House!

So there are no visible signs or names on the building to know that it's the place you are looking for. I happened to stop and ask the lady of the house, who happened to be Khun Surada.

So firstly it's about 40 metres back from the main road, behind the Aviva Insurance company and facing the railway line (no problem).

The place itself is also rather interesting, if not unusual. She showed me round. It's like a mixture of her home and a number of well appointed rooms on 3 floors. It's rather "boutique" like. She has a broadband Internet connection, (not in each room!)

The ground floor rooms seemed slightly smaller and most en-suites were separated off by partition walls which were not full height to the ceiling. The rooms on the middle floor were largest, with some dining room furniture on the communal landing area. The top floor rooms were hottest (understandably). All the rooms had AC and I remember seeing some free standing fans and small fridges.

The lady has previously spent some time in Europe and sought to reflect that in her choice of room furnishings and style of the place. The furniture and furnishings, including bed linen, curtains etc in all the rooms are to a high standard and reflect the European influence. The curtains for example were long classy looking drapes.

The lady gave me her business card and is happy for anyone to ring or email her with any questions. She said she would also collect people from the airport free.

Hope that gives you a feel for things.

Thanks Beer Monkey, that's a good idea. :D

It was a bit unusual in that it didn't really have a Reception desk or anything like that. It was more like a living/reception room with a table, sofa, chairs and computer desk. The ground floor bedrooms then lead immediately off that room.

The decor of the bedrooms was certainly very nice, though I was less keen on the open top en-suites.

Surada

It sounds more like a traditional bed-and-breakfast type of arrangement, actually could be quite comfortable for someone needing a good homebase for a lengthy visit.

Thanks arjay, very informative and apparently a winner. Actually Beer Monkey unless I read the website wrong the Breakfast is included in the price so like I said its sounds like a win / win situation though I must admit getting used to the open top Hong Nam will take a bit of getting used to. Once again thanks everybody for their input. :D

The main implication for me where en-suite walls don't extend to the ceiling is the fact that you would get some condensation in the bedroom area, and over the longer term decorations deteriorate quicker. Though AC units do also act as dehumidifiers.
