Does anyone know a website or websites where I can either download or buy eBooks in Thai language. Thinking of buying the wife a Kindle but can't find any books for it in Thai.

According to the Bangkok Post, the biggest e-book supplier in Thailand...

From about 9 months ago..
The site currently offers 1,000 books and publications in the Thai language. The offerings are expected to rise to 100,000 by year-end and top one million in the future.

http://www.ebooks.in.th

I think you will struggle getting any free books though!!

I think there are precious few Thai books in e-format. You can start at http://store.2ebook.com/, http://www.dungtrin.com/index.php?optio ... Itemid=278, and kids' books at http://www.horhook.com/content/index.htm

I bought a Kindle Fire from the US and had it shipped here. Most every thing is blocked for use in Thailand. Wish I had my $200 back. I'll stick with my Apple products. At least you can use a VPN on them.

"Most every thing is blocked for use in Thailand."

Can you give an example? I'm bringing a Kindle Fire back when I return from vacation......I'm able to download books from Amazon, from the San Antonio library, and can read my daily newspapers.......including ThaiRath. If I have a wifi at home off of my desktop, I should be able to do the same things that I can do on my desktop.

All TV shows, videos, movies are blocked. Limited to apps sold on Amazon only. There are a huge amount Android of apps available but Amazon limits it to theirs only. The limited storage really ties you into a plan with Amazon. If you are using it to just read books I'd just get a kindle reader. Their lighter and the battery lasts longer.

Another thing I dislike about it is the lack of a VPN configuration. On the iPad and iPhone you can add a VPN and have access to any blocked website in the US. Such as Pandora, Netflix, annualcreditreport.com, ect.

If you want to give a kindle fire a "test drive" give me a inbox. Your welcome to use mine for a few days.

B&N Nook

Postby Geoffrey » February 2, 2012, 5:16 pm

I have a Nook and am not yet able to see Thai books in ePub format yet. Pdf files are readable but I'd rather have them in ePub format. I can't read Thai Rath yet. I believe I need to add some fonts. There are some discussions about this on http://www.mobileread.com

Yes Geoffrey, That was anther problem with Kindle fire. No Thai font. My GF pointed that out. I tried to download it and Amazon has it locked from Android, so you can't download it. Went to a few Geek web sites they said you can "root it" and add other fonts. To much work for me.
