Thai Laptop in U.S. ?

Postby STARS » April 8, 2011, 8:04 pm

Heading back to the States soon and wondering if I bought a laptop computer in Udon will it be compatable for use in the U.S. ?
I have a problem locating a retail store in the States that offers English/Thai language keyboards.

It would be much cheaper to buy in the USA,you can buy a keyboard here or stickers!

Thanks for reply.
I made a note that the keyboards cost less here, that might be the way to go, or stickers to use on a lap top purchased in America.

If you buy in the US, you may also want to consider warranty issues. There's HP & Dell in Thailand, but I don't know if the warranty carries over. Something to ask about when making your purchase.

Can't see any problem on compatibility with either a PC or a Mac. You need to compare prices here and there. With a Mac laptop you will pay about $100. US dollars more here.
But with a Mac you could call the Apple store (US) and ask if you can get the US/Thai keyboard, don't see why not.

With a PC, just make sure you have a valid operating system and not a copy, but even if a copy, no difference either here or there. Just might need to buy and install new operating system. Without checking, just might be cheaper here and have the US/Thai keyboard.

Say hello to the TSA for me and good luck.

A anything like decent laptop (& I am not going to the top end Sony VAIO range here) is going to cost you 20,000 baht in Thailand.
You can get a good basic laptop from someone like Dell in the US for about the $450 = 13,500 baht. The Dell one will have a quicker chip & more memory than the Thailand buy as well. That will also include a genuine copy of Windows 7 & a 1 year equipment warranty.
Buy the key stickers (they are cheap, but do wear) or consider buying a USB plug in Thai/English keyboard. Maybe not very convenient if you normally just carry the laptop, but fine if you use a laptop bag & when you are sat down using it...That will cost you just over the 200 baht..

ASUS and Acer also have worldwide warranties and are good choices. NewEgg website has some nice bargains at times.

I would go for a laptop in the USA much cheaper than LOS. Google "Walmart USA" and conpare their prices.

This is the sum of things.
Buy a keyboard in Thailand because the stickers wear out and English/Thai keyboards are not available in the US. The cost of keyboards is lower here also.
A good laptop can be purchased for about $499 or less in the US, cost less than one here, and has warranty, higher speed, and Windows 7 which is able to be set up for dual language keyboard use.
