Thai windows

Postby Peterplay » January 21, 2011, 8:09 pm

Is there actually a Thai version of Windows ?

My partner would like to use the computer and presumably internet, but can't manage the English version.

I know I can install a Thai character set, but that by itself doesn't change the Windows appearance.

Thanks for your answer.

Indeed the Windows 7 Thai version was launched in October 2009...
http://www.bangkokpost.com/tech/compute ... -announced
Windows 7 Thai release announced

Microsoft (Thailand) will launch the Thai version of Windows 7 on October 24, with the operating system pre-installed on 40 computer brands at 10 major IT chain stores.
Managing Director Patama Chantaruck said the company expects the formal launch of Windows 7 in Thailand is slightly behind the US launch die to development of Thai language support.
The 40 brands offering the pre-installed software will be both local and international models.
The 10 stores will also offer Windows 7 as separate software.

Just remember you may need to load on a different computer unless you are expert enough to set up your PC to boot from different operating software.

My wife uses Windows XP Darkside, we bought it with the laptop in KK. I think it's a Thai copy of XP designed to look like 7.

Thanks for the answers. Stantheman, I don't need double boot, I have my own laptop.

The big thing is that my partner doesn't have computer knowledge, but thinks he can do everything alone. Only that warrents an (old) computer just for him...
And by installing a Thai windows version it's a sure thing I never have to give support.

Peter there are a number of places in town that sell second hand computers.
I am sure that most places would be able to install Thai language Windows (although probably XP & probably not legal) for a few baht if you bought.
