I have tried a few, like the fried crickets too.

Try serving a thai liquorice, they run away gagging

Somtam is quite nice without the fermented fish sauce IMO (Dam Thai) and the fried insects are quite good also. I don't think I'd be brave enough to try the others though.

Both of those dishes are fab , I love the flavour of prawn ...had them yesterday whilst living it up next to the mekong

Thailand's 14th most repulsive dish.
I saw this the other day and was quite put off:

Come on Brits. Really? I like beans, I like toast, but together looks like something I might do if I was drunk, hungry, and to lazy to go to the store! Guess we all have different tastes!

That's certainly true. I mean the Americans like pancake and maple syrup with their fried bacon, eggs etc. It's not something I'd go for but as you say everyone has different tastes.

I tried it once but only after being goaded into it by the wife. I chewed and ate a small (very small) piece and that was the last time I have ever touched it. It used to be that we could not make a trip to Vientiane without stopping at one of the roadside stands and purchasing some for her elderly father. Now that he has passed away we don't buy it any longer. That is some real hard-core stuff!

Two more repulsive things Thai people eat, and I witnessed it so I know it to be true. First is the warm blood drained from a pigs throat thats been slit open the moment it has been slaughtered with a sledge hammer, and secondly the warm raw liver from a dog after its been slaughtered. The dogs liver is thought to act as some kind of aphrodisiac - OT is sceptical about this and would go for the cialis option.

OT.......... \:D/

For me its not the food so much as the sauce they dip it in ,

This stuff is called in Thai piyaon .Believe it or not it is cow **** and bile taken from the dead animals inside. It is normally eaten as an accompanient to boiled beef .I must admit being totally unaware I sat for half an hour eating it at a recent village wedding . It actually tasted quite pleasant, a bit sweet and hot from the chllies. But after I found out what it was, no more . The bottle in the photograph was purchased by wife today from the French beef place for 20 bht .Apologies for blurred photo .

OT's just done a double back flip over the back of his chair with laughter after reading TB thought eating feces which is a waste product from an animal's digestive tract expelled through the anus was, to him, delicious.
I doubt if your wife wanted to get romantic with you after eating that culinary delight.

OT...........wheres the puking up smiley?.... \:D/
