Thank You Paolo Hospital

Postby mapache » July 20, 2008, 4:23 pm

I am posting this to thank Paolo hospital for helping me obtain a much needed medication.

Before coming to Thailand, I got a 3-months supply of all my medications. It turned out, however, that my pharmacy in the U.S. shorted my most important medication by one month--giving me 120 tablets instead of 180.

If I couldn

paolo is also my hospital of choice, most times. had hemorroid removed there, cared for nicely. for mental scarring details, do search. pain free, 2 days, except bill, shy of 60k baht.

NEED SOME HELP Haven't asked the professionals yet, but maybe someone out there knows if COPAXONE or generic version is available in thailand. very expensive trademarked in usa. used for MS treatment. no urgency or great importance, just keeping my brother from retiring early, as couldn't afford the meds without his work med coverage. cost over 2000 usd a month in states for his meds, which keep him fairly non symtematic, one of the lucky ones, thankfully.

i've searched and can't find anything, any help appreciated. thank you.

seems i may have posted this a bit premature, did new search and quite recently there is talk of a generic. but any help still appreciated if knowing anything available in thailand at this time. thank you again.

Paolo Hospital

Postby fdimike » July 20, 2008, 9:23 pm

Mr. Tossaporn has been with the hospital for many years and is charged with assisting the foreign patients. He does an outstanding job and will be sorely missed when he retires. There isn't much that he doesn't know regarding Polo Hospital, local doctors, specialists, medications etc etc. I know I can always count on him to make sure all is correct with my visit. He will accompany you to see the doctor and will also make sure the pharmacy provides you with the correct medications and whatever paperwork you need for insurance purposes. He also makes the rounds with the doctors to see any foreign in-patients. He will even meet you at the hospital on his day off if he knows that a farang is being seen by one of their doctors. I consider him a friend I can always count on regarding anything to do with Paolo.

Laphanphon if I were you I would pay a visit to Somsak's pharmacy on Posri Rd opposite the Bangkok Bank and ask him to check the MIMS directory for availabilty of Copaxone. Mr. Somsak speaks english very well and I'm sure would be happy to help you.

I used Paolo a few years back to remove a Cist from my right under arm. They did it in the out patients. The Doc cut out this big orange bugger and sewed me back up. The whole procedure including Meds for infection cost Bt 1,300. I had to return every day to change dressings at a cost of Bt 50 a day. We went to Bkk a week later for my wifes Visa and the Hospital in Bkk charged Bt 150 to change the dressings. I was very happy with my treatment at Paolo and would not hesitate to use them again.

Copaxone is found in MIMS, and its incredibly expensive .

Copaxone Prefilled Syringe (Injection) Rx (S4) CMI
Glatiramer acetate; mannitol
Pack 20 mg/mL (prefilled syringe) [1] x 28 : Authority - PBS/RPBS (Rp 5)
[Approved indication(s) for authority]
PBS: $1,090.93 AUD
Dose 1 mL (20 mg) SCI once daily

I would be very supprised if its available over the counter in Udon,

The best Pharmacy for searching this is probably a hospital based unit.

There is a good farmacy chain called Fascino in Pattaya and Bangkok where you can order almost anything for a much lower price than in hospitals.
Also medical supplies like special beds, training material etc.

Google search for Fascino, and you'll find a forum with some info on it.

Whether it's worth the trip there is your decision.
