Thanksgiving Dinner

Postby Thai_1_On » November 15, 2008, 9:52 pm

Hi gang, well living and teaching out here in deepest Issan is quite an experience. All thought I really love it out here I miss the chance to have a "real" Thanksgiving Day Dinner. So with that being said what Udon restaurant is having a Thanksgiving Day Dinner? I'll let the school know I'm taking a few day off to come to Udon. An added bonus would be if anyone would copy the the Macy's day parade for me [-o< One of the very few things I miss from the USA.

I saw Steve today. He is doing very well. I was surprised on how well he looks and talks. He appears thinner.
Steve's Bar has a Thanksgiving dinner on the 27th. 400 baht. Starts at 1:00 pm. Open to all. This is the original dinner organized by Sal. Should be fun.

The Thanksgiving dinner at Steve's is not an open party sje is preparing food based on the reservations. Reservations closed the 12th. The restaurant will be open to the public but the VFW (Sal was chairman for the event) event is a private party.

After reading the above posts, I am a little confused.

I understand if you are a member of the VFW you are allowed to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and party at Steve's bar if you signed up by the 12th.

I am not a member of the VFW but would like to share in the tradition of Thanksgiving.

I understand Steve's bar is open to the public as well as hosting the private VFW party on thanksgiving day.

Since Turkey is being served with the trimmings and Steve's bar is open to the public this day, will the general public be able to order Turkey from the menu?

My question: I do not want to attend the VFW party, but I would like to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner since I will be in Udon Thani.

If not, is there anywhere in Udon Thani where one can enjoy a traditional thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day?

Thank you all.

The VFW is sponsoring the party.
The dinner was open to any American, VFW or not, if reservations were made by the 12th. Malai needed the count to purchase the food for this event. Word was put out at the Oct 8th meeting.
Obviously it is impossible to to contact all the Americans in the area but each VFW member was to pass the word to as many as possible.
The VFW party is closed to all without reservations. Part of the restaurant is to be open for business with no smoking 1300-1400 during the VFW party.
If Malai is preparing any extra traditional dinners that is up to her but she wanted an actual count for food purchases, hence the reason for closing the reservations to give her time to do what she needs to do.
I am not aware of any other place serving a dinner like this but that only means I am not aware.

rjb,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I just got back into town and just wanted to share and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner in Udon is all.

I guess I will just show up at 1300 hrs. and ask if I can purchase a turkey dinner. Take away or eat there....no problem for me...if not I will just go next door and have a tuna sandwich.

Thanks again for the info.

By all means stop in and say hello. I can't promise you the meal you want but would be surprised if she didn't have an extra or two.

I agree, hard to believe there won't be enough food for an unreserved meal or two. I'll even eat a little less to help accommodate those who didn't get the word. I'll have a beer to make up for it. :guiness:

I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones as my father in-law (former VFW commander) informed me in time. I'm with UdonExpat, I'll shave down my portions Image (except for the dressing, mine, mine ,mine =P~ ) so that others may have a dinner. In a few months I'll have my first year anniversary living and teaching here in Thailand and I have a lot to be Thankful for this year [-o<

Now if I could just get a good game of D&D Imagetogether that would make the trip perfect =D> See you guys Thursday.

Excellent Thanksgiving dinner at Steve's Bar. The turkey was excellent and plentiful. Plenty of turkey left, come on down.
