Hi Nick ,

we are glad you enjoyed your Sunday Roast Dinner - and apologies if you were kept waiting .. we had about 28 people all sit down within about 20 minutes on Sunday.. was a bit hectic for a while :D

sorry you were expecting Paxo Stuffing because of a previous post i made on this forum .

if you had asked me on Sunday i could have told you the reasons why we stopped serving stuffing OR we also have a large blackboard in front of the counter stating what is included in the 195baht Roast Dinner OR having checked back on my posts you can see on the 29th May i posted about Including Turkey but i took out the stuffing .

however i will outline my reasons here for your benefit

we stopped serving stuffing ( say that 10 times quickly  ) when we introduced Turkey and Pork to the Sunday Roast Dinner , to help offset the HEAVY  cost of the turkey and without needing to increase the price to our customers

the stuffing was costing about 450 per kilo ( 30 baht portion ) and the Turkey is nearly double the cost of the Thai French Beef so the stuffing had to go i,m afraid , to enable us to continue with our 195 baht including FREE drink meal deal .

we have taken delivery of some nice lamb joints and i will post soon when they will be on the Sunday Roast Dinner Menu.
the cost will probably be about 260 to include a drink but we wont know for sure until we cook a joint and see what weight / portion we get.

anyway , again , sorry for any disappointment you may have had and for future referance , please always check the in-house blackboards for up to date /current offers rather than rely on possibly outdated internet posts

I was always led to believe that the "free drink" was a temporary bonus.

Dropping it from the menu will in no way detract me from my weekly attendance!!

Mexican Mondays? A great idea but need a FREE DRINK to wash down the hot chile peppers and salsa sauce, don't we? :-k Make mine a pitcher of Margaritas or cerveza, please. No Mexican beer? San Miguel sounds close enough. :guiness:

Seriously, a gratis bottle of water would go over good with the Mexican food.

Its good to see the continuing growth of this friendly and uniqie outlet in Udon. The business seems to be driven by some original ideas and a desire to deliver value for money.
The courtyard is a pleasant change and the owners welcoming and interested in their customers and their opinions.
I for one will be extending my patronage and wish all concerned the success they are working so hard to acheive.

Independence Day Free Beer 3rd July

Postby Librarian » June 28, 2010, 9:00 am

(researched on Google )

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.[4][5] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
“ The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[6] ”

Adams' prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[7]

One of the most enduring myths about Independence Day is that Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.[8][9] The myth had become so firmly established that, decades after the event and nearing the end of their lives, even the elderly Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had come to believe that they and the other delegates had signed the Declaration on the fourth.[10] Most delegates actually signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776.[11] In a remarkable series of coincidences, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers of the United States and the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence to become president, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the United States' 50th anniversary.

here at the Bookhouse we get a lot of American Customers - I asked some of our customers about suitable celebrations for this important American National Holiday . the general consensus seemed to be most Americans would celebrate this Holiday at home , cooking BBQ food with their families .

unfortunately we havent got our BBQ built yet at the Bookhouse or we would have a Big BBQ Party to celebrate (maybe next year !! )
4th of July this year falls on a Sunday although i,m told the Holiday will be the whole weekend --- so in appreciation of the support given to us by our American Cousins , on Saturday 3rd July ALL DAY -
what we have decided to do, here at The BookHouse , is give FREE BEER with every one of Mrs L,s Famous Burgers and Dogs :D
