I must concur with Bangkok Butcher ref the lamb dinner . Yesterday i waddled my ample frame from CC up Adunyadhet rd in search of quality lamb dinner (a near exstinct dish in Udon ) - i can confirm its alive and well and in abundance at the Bookhouse , really enjoyed it cracking grub - indeed a real treat.
The waddle back down Adunyadhet rd took longer for some reason - next time i will take the car .

Re: Independence Day Free Beer 3rd July

Librarian wrote:(researched on Google )

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.[4][5] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
“ The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[6] ”

Adams' prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[7]

One of the most enduring myths about Independence Day is that Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.[8][9] The myth had become so firmly established that, decades after the event and nearing the end of their lives, even the elderly Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had come to believe that they and the other delegates had signed the Declaration on the fourth.[10] Most delegates actually signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776.[11] In a remarkable series of coincidences, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers of the United States and the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence to become president, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the United States' 50th anniversary.

here at the Bookhouse we get a lot of American Customers - I asked some of our customers about suitable celebrations for this important American National Holiday . the general consensus seemed to be most Americans would celebrate this Holiday at home , cooking BBQ food with their families .

unfortunately we havent got our BBQ built yet at the Bookhouse or we would have a Big BBQ Party to celebrate (maybe next year !! )
4th of July this year falls on a Sunday although i,m told the Holiday will be the whole weekend --- so in appreciation of the support given to us by our American Cousins , on Saturday 3rd July ALL DAY -
what we have decided to do, here at The BookHouse , is give FREE BEER with every one of Mrs L,s Famous Burgers and Dogs :D

yes, the Aussie Burger must also include a slice of Plastic Kraft cheese also.

So need to add bacon, tomato, cheese , fried onions and the option of pineapple ring.

Wazza - i intend to speak to Docta in the future about a big custom BBQ . ( got some saving to do first! )

according to Google - the primary ingredient that makes an Aussie Burger , an Aussie Burger is Pickled Beetroot

the easiest way to please everyones idea of an Aussie Burger is to give the basic Burger / Beet Combo and if customers want their regional variations added as an extra - they can :D

anyway - my post was intended as a promotion for FREE BEER with Burgers and Dogs re Independence Day celebrations -- and a reminder of the social get together on the same day ( the former night market meetings ) here at the Bookhouse on July 3rd

and to offer our very own creation - The George Washington Burger and Sub - 150baht and FREE BEER :D

Wazza - pickled was my addition ..oops  (probably describing my brain after some of the comments here ! )

i took this from Wiki Food

-A burger with ingredients added which may not be found in the 'usual' burger, especially beetroot (which is essential to make it an "Aussie Burger"). Usually served with chips (fries).

as for 26th Jan .which holiday are you referring to ? google that date shows a variety of Events ,Births and Deaths.

i assume you mean Australia Day ;) - although .. did you know it is also Liberation Day for Uganda - Republic Day in India  etc

but you ARE on the right track with -
So Jan 26th next year, can we expect a Free Aussie Burger with the lot , with every small Leo !

because we can see that offering Good Service , Good Value Food with regular special offers , and a nice friendly enviroment is paying dividends . month on month since we have opened our footfall increases ( so do our electric bills ! )

we now have lots of repeat customers who are satisfied with what they are getting for their money and lots of mainly positive comments from The Customers Who Actually Use Us !!

Hi,
Having a leg of lamb, cooking now, for today With roast and boiled potatoes and veg. You lot talking about it made me defrost it overnight, thanks. To top it off, my last packet of OXO lamb gravy with mint sauce. Mouths watering just thinking about it.
Lamb should be cooked slowly and the center, when carved, a little red. Should not be overcooked as a lot of people do.
Cheers Doug.
By the way costs. Good leg of lamb 700B Potatoes 38B a kilo. Veg. dirt cheap. Gravy priceless. Roll on 4-o-clock.
Cheers Doug.
