I feel a little remiss, being a great lover of good food such as I am. Today was my first, but certainly not my last, dining experience at The Book House & Coffee Shop.
Had a great 200 gram burger, with lettuce, tomato, and pickle, on a very good bun. Jeremy was even gracious enough to let me substitute the chips (fries) for onion rings. Which were some of the best I've ever had. Very good batter. 150 baht. :D
The rest of the menu is very diverse and will certainly please any palate.

In addition...wonderful selection of books.

Potato Wedges -

Postby Librarian » July 8, 2010, 4:37 pm

Once upon a time in a land , far far away ...... :D

nearly every day , Mrs n Mr L , and baby Oliver , take a trip to Nong Sim to feed the fishes with any bread we have left over from the previous day .

there are a few Thai Food stalls around the lake selling various wares including *Potato Twists *

the potato appears to have been peeled and then finely cut (by machine i would guess ) and then deep fried in oil and then given a powder coating with one of a multitude of flavours.

i have developed an addiction  for these tasty treats and have one each time we visit . after chatting to the lady running the stall , she informed us it is a franchise business .

i had the thought ,that maybe our Potato Wedges with homemade Garlic Mayonaise Dip , we sell here at The Bookhouse , could be improved upon by adding a powdery coating .

the really nice lady at Nong Sim ordered for us , Barbeque , Sour Cream and Cream Cheese flavoured coatings which we are now offering at NO EXTRA CHARGE :D with a portion of our already popular ,Fresh Cut Potato Wedges .

try them , they are a delicious snack !! :D

oh , and dont forget - tomorrow is Friday PieDay here at The BookHouse .. Free drink with every Pie .

thanks

Am up at the bookhouse now. Having been here a few days I can say I am happy with the prices, service, food and accommodations. Jeremy and Nok have been great with everything. Will give a full report soon.

All Day Sunday Roast Dinner -

Postby Librarian » July 25, 2010, 9:10 am

another week , nearly another month - zoom zoom
time really does fly -

its the Sunday Bookhouse Update again .

i,ve been spending the last few weeks cataloging my DVD collection . i was just going to sell the lot because i couldnt be bothered to spend the time to get all the movies into some sort of order - then i had a change of heart and decided it was a little project i wanted to finish :D

http://connect.collectorz.com/users/ban ... ovies/view

- this is how far i have got at the moment .. still about another 1000 to get into the programme .

it is my intention to do a similar to my book business , DVD rental .
whilst i know people with a good internet access and a bit of computer savvy can access most of these via the net , the people who live out in the sticks :D may appreciate the opportunity to watch some of the old British TV Series like Minder , One Foot in the Grave , Six Million Dollar Man , the 1960s series of Avengers , plus lots of old John Wayne , Clint Eastwood westerns and movies like the original 1969 Italian Job plus many many more.. all in English Language

another few weeks and i,ll be ready to start i expect

on the food front , Today as always is our Traditional Sunday Roast Dinner -
still only 195baht for Beef Turkey and Pork or 265baht for New Zealand Roast Lamb
still with a free drink of choice ( within reason )
and 4 varieties of freshly cooked vegetables
roast and mashed potatoes , yorkshire pudding
sage and onion stuffing and a rich meaty gravy

we have ( while stocks last ) cranberry sauce , horseradish sauce , mint sauce and apple sauce but you need to ask because we keep all the sauces in the fridge ;)

after customer feedback , we now serve our Sunday Roasts ALLDAY on Sundays ( from Midday till about 8 pm ) for the people that dont like to eat a big meal early afternoons .

having extra ovens and gas rings makes cooking a lot easier ( so Mrs L says :D ) so our service and order - food on the table times are much quicker than ever .

to clarify a point - any orders for takeaway /delivery to another business ( ie a roast dinner delivered to a bar ) will not include a free drink if one is offered in the sit down meal . it is not right to bring a free beer to drink in another bar at the bar owners expense  ( yes it did happen !! ) and no , an irish coffee is not considered a within reason drink included in the 195baht Roast Dinner ( ...yep ) and no , i wont buy *the free drink * in the bar that i delivered the roast dinners to . because the margins simply are not enough to buy a leo at 60baht and still serve an already great value dinner at 195 baht - ( one customer wanted all this so i needed to clarify for everyone else . )

the orange juice we serve with our 160 breakfast has been changed to Tipco Brand as we continue to improve the quality and value for money we offer our customers :D

as for breakfasts - we still offer 3 choices -
the 99 baht value breakfast
the 160 baht Bookhouse Breakfast
and the 260baht Monster Breakfast

the 160baht Bookhouse Breakfast includes a choice of either freshly ground coffee or English Tea plus a glass of Juice . 2 eggs fried or scrambled , a big fatboy sausage or 2 breakfast pork thins . black pudding , beans , tomatoes , fried bread , mushrooms , toast with jam or marmalade and 2 slices of quality back bacon which we now grill so can get a nice crispy rind !!

the sausages / bacon and black pudding are only available at the BookHouse so the taste is different than everyone elses breakfast . love it or hate it , its unique :D

i,ve bowed to customer requests  and we now have a good supply of Colmans English Mustard and Branston Pickle to smother over those cheese and ham sandwiches .

well thats about it - i need to go carve the meat joints !!

 Last saturday night I visit with my Gf The Book House and not for the first time. The food was good and tasty, that why we come back. But Saturday they allowed a few children to make a playgarden from the diningplace. A lot of screaming and running for a half hour. Parents did nothing about it, seems to be normal to them. I payed earlier without drinking my coffee. I know that children want to move, but when I have dinner outside , a half hour is too much.

We ate there yesterday, everything was great as usual, though no kids playing or screaming about the pool.

I think Jeremy and Nok are doing there very best to provide service to everyone, which might cause some conflict in relation to your complaint.

But if I had a complaint of that order, whether it was ''kids'' or ''adults'',I would have discussed with them!I have no doubt that the noise and activity would have been tempered down!

The fact that no one said anything, leaves a reasonable assumption that there was no offense!

Henrie ,

on saturday night you came and ordered Massaman Curry and your GF ordered Thai Food . you had 1 singha and 1 water .

you never asked for , nor ordered coffee -

you complained about the soft music coming from the speakers ( Eva Cassidy ) and we offered to either seat you inside our quiet air conditioned restaurant, or the other side of our courtyard where there are no speakers . you declined and insisted to sit under the canopy with the speakers and around the families seated who had children .

we turned off the music for you as we have done each time you come in and complain about the back ground music .
you did indeed get up and pay for your food before you had finished eating it , and complain about the noise from the other customers children , to Mrs L , telling her it was too noisy to eat - she told you it was a family restaurant and she needed to try and take care of everyones needs , not only yours .

you then sat down again and finished eating your meal.

you upset both families of our customers with children by complaining about there children , and if you remember , a while ago your previous GF was rolling drunk and violently ill  !! in our courtyard to the dismay of other customers at that time .

whilst we endeavor to ensure each and every one of our customers has a pleasant experience here , try as we may , we cannot please everyone

as a businessman and a father of a 1 year old boy , i promote this business as a value for money , family friendly eatery , that plays soft back ground music outside and a noiseless enviroment to eat inside .

this is what we have to offer , come in if you like what we offer , dont come in if you dont , it doesnt matter and no hard feelings, i,m sure there are other businesses that can cater for your exacting needs.

Not being a parent, I would still rather put up with a couple of kids running around than a " rolling drunk " any time.

Perhaps Henri could capitilise on this issue and open up a no kids , no music, family restaurent, with 10% discount for rolling drunks on Mondays .

Henrie, not only are you a first class pain in the ar5e, but one of your previous birds pukes up in the courtyard in front of everyone.

Classic.
