Mod Note: Question and replies have been moved here: farang-food-prices-udon-thani-t17896.htmlHi Petemcc
i see on your other thread you were looking for advice , i will try to be objective and helpful also
you said - Being purely objective here, are the prices not a bit on the steep side? , indicating from your own words you were asking a question .
when someone replied saying our prices were not steep at all , you replied -
Thanks, so people are prepared to pay western prices in UT, that's all I wanted to know.
i thought you asked the question because on another thread you said -
Gentlemen, any ideas on the viability of a farang food cafe in Nong Sam Rong?--
and you also said - my idea would be to establish a farang food cafe, you know Sunday roast, burgers, toasted sandwiches, fish and chips, pies, mash ( great menu ideas btw

)
and - Any thoughts on the viability? -
then you said re, The Bookhouse- I am a keen price watcher and I think the prices charged are expensive,
so , my advice is

- as you appear to be looking into opening a cafe with basically the same menu as mine ( i,ll take that as a compliment thanks

our business model works on lower than industry standard margins on many lines - volume sales as opposed to a big hit every now and again - .. dont compromise on lower quality products and be prepared to lose money for the 1st nine months of business ( minimum !! ) . The whole point of being self employed in business , is everyone feels satisfied with the outcome of the transaction . by that i mean the customer feels he has gotten for his money , good food , good service and a pleasant enviroment and we feel as the business owner we have been moderately rewarded for our efforts .
we also like to offer genuine freebies , like free computer usage and daily newspapers and ample supplies of the expensive western condiments , like hp sauce , mustard etc etc - which all must be paid for from the margins in the food and drink .
if you feel that a Beef / Turkey/ Pork Roast Dinner -195baht with a beer included ( upto heineken @ 65baht = meal @130baht is expensive

) then i look forward to visiting your cafe if / when it opens and see how your value for money compares with ours
good luck in any venture you try in Udon - its not easy !
