Your honour, I am English, and the language of this forum is English, as was recently pointed out.![]()
(Note the correct spelling of the word "Honour", next you'll be telling me it should be Honor)
I contend that the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law is an American dictionary and thus uses American English.Whilst I don't have an (Oxford) English dictionary to hand, to prove or verify my point, I don't believe that the word "pled" is in the (Oxford) English dictionary/language. It is certainly not used as a past tense of plead in general English usage in England or in the English Courts, or indeed where I or Izzix come from.

It's probably one of these words like "sneak" where the English use "sneaked" in the past tense, and the Americans have cunningly devised some obscure alternative so that they can't be accused of just following our language verbatim, and to make a point they use the word "snuck".![]()

So your honour I plead "not guilty" and rest my case accordingly.![]()
Furthermore, I counter claim that Izzix was bringing the English Language into disrepute by quoting said text, and he should therefore be struck off forthwith, if not sooner (thirdwith).![]()

I guess James Goyder must be one of dem Americans what don't spoke propper English, alena, or was taught by one ?![]()
Case dismissed, after viewing exhibit ;1
The findings of the court is that the word Pled is a bastardisation of the English Language, by our Colonial Friends, both American & Scottish![]()
