The new Magazine is out now

Postby Paul » April 28, 2007, 1:05 am

Just read the new magazine (all of it) and would like to offer my congratulations to Lee on a fine magazine. Lots of information and articles about the foreigners here in and around Udon.
Long may it continue :)

I have just about finished reading the whole of the magazine, there is a lot of good reading in it already and in my opinion a major accomplishment, Udon has long been awaiting a publication like this.

As a sponsor I have had quite a few enquiries and a couple of bookings from my advertisement already, so I am more than pleased

I was in the clock last night and was handed a copy by David T.

Also saw a few copies this morning whilst having breakfast in City Lodge

I tried the airport today and they looked at me like I had 3 heads when I enquired. I got a copy from the downunder bar. Well done lee and team.

I am wondering if the magazine will become an eventual replacement for the fold up map. Surely the two cannot be sustained together ???

That's what I was thinking.
The map is only one page, and space is at at premium.
The map can be included in the magazine.
Saving money on it's production.

Thanks, we're pleased you like it.

Thanks Wokka. You know one of the most difficult aspects about creating a publication like this is finding willing businesses wishing to display it for us. Yesterday we visited the Shopping center information counter, after a rather lengthy conversation explaining what the magazine was about and who it was for, they agreed to place them on their counter. We passed the information counter 30 minutes later only to find that they had hidden them out of view of the public. We asked them why and they said the owner of the complex doesn't allow publications like this to be displayed. They advised us to book an appointment with the owner to discuss the matter further. The same goes for the airport, we have given free copies to the information counter, TAT etc, and all immediately hide them under their counters, maybe they think the mag contains top secret information LOL! The limousine office refuse to display them, so the next step is to track down the people in charge of the airport to see if we can get help there.

It really is a challenge to display the magazine in Udon, even the top hotels aren't willing to display it, but are more than happy to hide it under their counters.

Is it online like the Daily Mail?

Hopefully soon!

This isn't the plan; they will continue to be published as separate publications. There is still a waiting list to advertise on the map. IMO people enjoy both, also the folder map is larger scale and easier to read.

Some sponsors like to advertise in both; and some prefer just the one advertisment, but this is fine by us. Advertising is not expensive, 1,000 baht for two months on the map and starting at 390 baht for 3 months in the magazine.

We've designed the magazine in a way to make it affordable to all i.e. it costs 790 bt for a full colour advert in the accommodation section which includes a marking on the map and free webpage, this works out at 9 baht per day for 3 months.

I can understand the big hotels not wanting to display "Udon Thani Magazine" in the reception. If the guests see adverts or information on where to eat and drink in Udon, they are not going to spent their money in the hotel. The magazines get shoved out of sight #-o

But the hotels and guest houses in places such as Phuket and Pattaya are more than happy to display a small collection of maps, magazines and brochures, all quite clearly advertising other businesses. I would have thought they'd be more than happy to display it so guests can find out more information about the city, and who knows they might even book a few more nights LOL!
