The Pool league

Postby Glyn » October 21, 2007, 1:44 pm

The season ends in 3 weeks, everyone thinks it's a good idea to expand to other bars, rather than the Aussie Trio. An even number would be good as there is no down time. But everybody who wants to be involved need to come together sooner rather than later if we are going to keep this thing alive.

Email me your thoughts info@englishmansretreat.com

I say all the bar owners that want to be involved get together one afternoon to hammer out the rules and playing structure. What are your thoughts???????

I wouldnt mind joining the pool league, but the tables at the aussie 3 are the old style and are not what I would like to play on (net pockets and uneven slates).

I saw a decent table at irish clock, fuzzy kens restaurant, and mojos. If the league went to those places, I would follow.

Agreed Wilson, those 3/4 snooker tables are terrible. There is another one (not in the Aussie bars) where if you play a slow shot the cue ball rolls back to you. Also the table in Fiddler's Green is good quality the same as Ken's and Mojo's.

In this edition of the Udon magazine a guy wrote a piece and about starting a league.

I talked with George in Fiddler's Green about a team and he is up for it

Alan would you be able drag yourself away from Mojo's and play for Fiddler's Green?.....................I know the answer stupid question.

All the american tables here come with solid slate beds and easy adjustable legs, making them the better tables to play on, but those venues can only be included if they choose to play in the league, you still end up playing at the other venues, with the typical Thai tables, there are two things to concider.
1. Your oponent has to put up with the same ****, so it's fair and balanced even if the table isn't
2. It's not to be taken so seriously, it's about fun and bringing falang together

Glyn,

If you talked to the different bar owners with pool tables I am sure every bar would enter a team
There are lots of peolpe living up here to play and lots of possible teams

Irish Clock
City lodge
Mojo's
Aussie Bar
Aussie Pub
Downunder
Fiddler's Green
Koala Bar
Fuzzy Kens

I am sure there are lots more I didn't think of

Good luck

Something like this will take 1 or 2 committed people to do the leg work and get it up and running. I'm sure the owners of the listed bars would welcome an influx of customers on what might otherwise be a quiet night. Just needs someone to take it by the scruff of the neck.

Well we did take it by the scruff, and it did work. However, always thinking ahead, who else is up for joining in for the next season (kicks off late feb/early Mar).

If your local has a table and you think there's enough talent passing through, start nagging the Landlord to sign up.

A team is made up of a min. 4 players, and upto a max of 10, this way it's very easy for a bar to get a team together, and you rarely need to disappoint someone who made the effort to turn up.

To add your bar, answer this thread, telephone me 0845 125 025 or email me, info@englishmansretreat.com

Cheers
Glyn
