The price of a cup of coffee in Udon

Sometimes I drink coffee at a local Bar. Usually I pay 30, 35 baht depending on the order.

According to the girl behind the bar they changed the prices. I paid for
one cup of coffee 60BAHT. Wow a raise of nearly 100%.

farangs double pricing farangs, i wonder what they charge the thais rich enough to go there?

Maybe you should ask the owner first? I am sure that someone that is clever enough to actually make a bar earn money over here might not be aware of his price increase in his absence

I don't think the owner is absent... He was there on Monday. I think quite a few items have increased and thus have been passed onto the customer. I know at least one more fahlang place that I frequent HAD to do it. He wish he didn't as he had to re-type his menus.

P.S. I don't think the beer has gone up so let's hope grain prices hold firm... There is a silver lining in every cloud...

60 baht for a coffee is a little over the top I think - especially as you can buy a large iced coffee in 7/11 for 12 baht. OK you can't sit down there in air conditioned comfort (well not unless you take your own seat ) BUT.........
Hear what you say about other menu items though IA, as another thread mentioned not a good time in the world for meat or cereal products

the owner may not be absent but his brain must be. maybe they are trying to cash in on the fact that coffee corner, opposite complex is going soon.

I think someone who wants to make a bar or restaurant a going concern has to charge a reasonable price. In saying that, there are a lot of miserable penny pinching, cheap charlies and freeloaders who complain about high prices in LOS. They wish it to be Thai prices in an air-con premises. Go buy yourself a jug and make it at home and stop the bellyaching.

Well said Wizard....Cheap Charlies should go back to home country and try and buy a coffee in the same environment..... If you can't pay don't play'

Had a few days in Bangkok last week and in some of the bars I wandered into, the other expats would ask, "Where do you live". I live in Khon Kaen, part of Issan. Their replies were along the lines, "Oh that is where all the cheap charlies live". Sometimes it is hard to defend yourself with that sort of generalised title, and they are correct.

I am the supreme basta_d cheap charlie. I actually DO compute what the cost of a meal is in dollar terms. There has been some wild fluctuation amongst food-related items recently, some of it perhaps justified, some of it just gouging.

And there is no discrimination, The Thais riding around in their sport utility vehicles or expensive european saloons get charged the same price as the bellyaching farangs who dare to have the audacity to question anything as they are guests.

firstly i think you will find that coffee corner is air conditioned, secondly there is a differance between being a cheap charlie, and just w nking money away for the sake of it. thirdly a reasonable price, give me a break and finally any one who wants to make a going concern of a bar restuarant, surely has to be there abouts in the market and has to purchase said business for a realistic price to start with. but hey what do i know im just a bellyaching free loader, but i aint stupid.

I expect the owner to adjust his prices to the point that he maximizes his profit. Perhaps he thinks that 60 baht per cup is a move in the right direction. Coffee probably isn't the only thing he serves.

at least the free wifi and pool tables are free there, if you guys want to compare to places down south, you can use the bog free too...........it aint 5 baht!
