Re: The Rugby Site
French sides fared better in Sunday’s Champions Cup fixtures with Exeter blown away by first-half tries from Clermont's flanker Julien Bardy, wing Noa Nakaitaci and centre Wesley Fofana during a devastating 15-minute spell. Exeter had no answer as full-back Nick Abendanon claimed a bonus-point touchdown just three minutes into the second period, before Fofana added another try, while scrum-half Morgan Parra kicked four conversions and substitute Pato Fernandez one.
Exeter 8 - 35 Clermont Auvergne
The Bordeaux-Begles rolled over Ulster with three late tries that gave them a 28-13 victory. Ulster led 13-9 with six minutes remaining thanks to an early try from Andrew Trimble and eight points from the boot of Paddy Jackson. Bordeaux-Begles had offered three kicks from the tee - with Ireland international Ian Madigan slotting two penalties - before a flurry of tries sent Ulster packing without so much as a losing bonus point

New Zealand 37-10 Australia
The All Blacks take their world record 18th straight win in what ended up a six tries to one drubbing, with the Wallabies just not good enough to break the ABs stranglehold on rugby union.

Re: The Rugby Site
While the AB's won the score definitely didn't reflect the game and/or the statistic's. Wallabies desperately unlucky to have a legitimate try ruled out by the TMO (who just about awarded a try to the AB's from an obvious forward pass and fortunately Nigel Owens had the courage to overrule him). Pleasing to see that the Aussies came to play and fronted up for the majority of the game. They still need impact players off the bench.
Still a bit scary for the other tier 1 rugby nations when the AB's win ugly and from a below par performance.
The Wallabies will give a good account of themselves during their Northern tour.

Re: The Rugby Site
The ABs were certainly made to work for their record victory in this Bledisloe Cup encounter and it was a gutsy performance from the Wallabies who came to play but were often sloppy and obviously the Australlians were fuming after the try was reversed in the 45 minute, it was after that incident that IMHO New Zealand took charge with a ruthless 15-minute burst of rugby that overpowered the visitors who by the end looked completely knackered out. I don't think it was all doom and gloom for the Australians and they should look forward to the Northern hemisphere tour which sees some promising matches for a team that has now got something to prove to disparagers of the Australians game.
Re: The Rugby Site
The Wallabies can hold their heads up, gutsy performance from both sides. I think both sides will be seeing the doctors after this game, it was not for the faint hearted, congratulations to the Kiwis. Better luck to the Wallabies next time these two great sides meet.

Re: The Rugby Site
Ireland 40-29 New Zealand
Ireland produced a stunning display to record a first ever win over New Zealand at the 29th attempt and end the All Blacks' run of 18 straight wins.
This was Ireland's first success over the Kiwis in 111 years and it came about in sensational fashion as Joe Schmidt's men repelled a stirring second-half comeback by Steve Hansen's side.
TJ Perenara, Ben Smith and Scott Barrett added to George Mola's first-half try for the New Zealanders but despite some sustained late pressure, they fell short for the first time in their past 19 encounters with top-tier nations.
Wales 8-32 Australia
Wales were utterly outplayed and lucky, in the end, to lose by only 24. The game was pretty much up at half-time. At that point Australia were leading by 17 and could have been many more ahead if they had only been a little more clinical with their finishing.
In other results...
Barbarians 31 - 31 South Africa Wembley Stadium,London
Japan 20 - 54 Argentina Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium

Re: The Rugby Site
Massive congratulations to the Irish. You have been threatening for a couple of years. Sets up a tasty encounter in Dublin (I predict the Irish will sneak it!). Breathes some fresh air into world rugby.
Wales look to be going backwards even though they were missing some top players.
With the Irish strong and England on a par it is all set up for a scintillating Lions tour in 17

Re: The Rugby Site
Wow, the Irish winning against the New Zealand juggernaut, well done Paddies. Well done Wallabies and Barbarians also, the Pumas are a bit like the All Blacks imo, big strong and hard to control them once they get going. I agree with tataw and Kul, its going to be an entertaining and hard battle for all teams this season, great for the game.

Re: The Rugby Site
First shocker of this weekend's internationals was Italy claiming their first-ever victory over South Africa with a nail-biting 20-18 success in Florence. South Africa had won the previous 12 games between the two countries and were ahead inside five minutes as the returning Bryan Habana finished Willie le Roux’s clean break.
But Italy were soon ahead when Andries van Schalkwyk crashed over from a rolling maul and Carlo Canna converted.
Damian De Allende’s converted try regained the lead for South Africa, who were 12-10 ahead at the break following an Edoardo Padovani penalty. Italy were reduced to 14 men at the start of the second half by Marco Fuser’s yellow card and a Patrick Lambie penalty gave the Springboks a five-point lead.
But Giovanbattista Venditti’s converted try put Italy 17-15 ahead, and the Azzurri held on for a famous victory after Elton Jantjies and Canna exchanged penalties in the final quarter.
In other results so far Wales got the last gasp winner 33-30 over Japan and England romped to a 58-15 win over Fiji.

Re: The Rugby Site
Comprehensive win for the English over the exuberant Fijians.
Squeaky bum time for the Welsh and the Scots manage to win against the Pumas.
The All Blacks beat the Irish but far from convincing and with the amount of possession the Irish had they should of done more with the ball.
Well who would of thought that we would ever see a rugby powerhouse be beaten firstly, by the Japanese and now the perennial trashing boys in the 5 Nations - Italy. A lot of the proud Springbok players of the past must be cringing to see the state of SA rugby.

And the Australian Wallabies had a win against France on French soil 25-23. The Wallabies may be on the comeback in Rugby.

Re: The Rugby Site
Rugby international results.
Italy 17 - 19 Tonga – Italy get pipped in the last third by a spirited Tonga performance
Fiji 38 - 25 Japan – Fiji out muscle Japan to take the win
England 27 - 14 Argentina – England dig deep to keep this year’s unbeaten run on track with Eddie Jones’s team playing with 14 men for 75-plus minutes, but held off the Pumas to win at Twickenham
Ireland 27 - 24 Australia - Ireland had to use all their resolve to see off Australia, but in doing so became the first northern hemisphere team since 2003 to beat the Wallabies, All Blacks and Springboks in a calendar year.
Wales 27 - 13 South Africa – South Africa’s woes continue… It may go some way to earning Rob Howley the job permanently, but this was a victory for Wales straight out of the Warren Gatland playbook. All power and physicality, putting concerns of a lack of Welsh wizardry to one side, they fully warranted this comfortable win, albeit against a South Africa who continue to plumb new depths.
France 19 - 24 New Zealand - The world champions looked a touch jaded and were never quite at their best, but took their chances when they came along. France, in contrast, dominated for long periods and played some superb running rugby, but were simply not clinical enough.
Scotland 43 - 16 Georgia - Scotland ran in six tries as they rounded off their autumn series with a crushing 43-16 win over Georgia at Rugby Park.
Italy 17 - 19 Tonga – Italy get pipped in the last third by a spirited Tonga performance

Re: The Rugby Site
France played like the France of old but just failed to take their chances and made some mistakes are critical times. The AB's looked off the pace but their defence was good even when the line was breached they didn't panic.
Good wins for the 4 home nations which is making the Lions tour in 17 to NZ all the more mouth watering.
Tonga beating Italy just makes the Boks loss all the more gut wrenching.
What a change a year has made in international rugby after the World Cup. The major threats to the AB's are now the Northern Hemisphere nations. The Australians are improving but are still just off the pace and their match against England next weekend will be a good litmus test for them.
The Boks are now ranked 7th which must be galling to the superb Boks of old.
Great for world rugby to have the majority of 1st tier nations on a par.
