Re: The Second World War again

Inn essence both the First and Second World Wars were fought and the winner was ,well does it really matter, we managed over the first half of the last century to kill maim and destroy millions of lives and property for what?

Now it would appear that if we are not careful we will repeat the last century this century, only with more sophistication.

You can take a look at many many history books and read into it whatever you want, no-one really tells the truth and no-one really cares, it depends on your individual perspective as to what you believe. History can be manipulated and often years later it changes due to some other piece of information coming to light, we are attempting to rewrite the history of the planet and we are arguing about a piffling little event which lasted only 6 years a miniscule amount of time considering how long the earth is perceived to have been around.

What we should do is to LEARN from past events and hopefully never repeat them, that is the point as to why we must remember all the poignant memories and the losses on all sides. It is the lessons we learn not the hype as to why it happened and who did what to whom and why , and who didn't or did even. But we the so-called intelligent species are capable of wreaking tremendous destruction and we still seem to carry with it and then justify it.., WHY are we all that stupid ... on this issue i must say that we are, I am amazed that with all that has happened over the last known decades of wars and destruction we are really no nearer to creating a nirvana we all crave for, rather we go headlong into possible total extinction with a smile on our faces, saying, we do this because and we won.....OH REALLY??????????????

While I dont agree with Texpat and agree that some of his views are deluded at best, i certainly wouldnt consider him a troll! A term that s bandied about way too much on this forum.

Did I say I was referring to Texpat?

Note for Dermot.

Dermot, whilst Jack might like to challenge things, either that he doesn't agree with, which are wrong, or where he sees flaws in their logic, Tex on the other hand is our resident troll. Whilst Tex has been known to occasionally post interesting material or a different or amusing perspective, he more usually prefers to post provocative, antagonistic material, to wind up the Brits, stir the pot, or generally mock or provoke other posters.

You'll no doubt notice that he is most active on threads were there is a potential for conflict between Brits and Americans! We were thinking of changing his Avatar to a picture of a large spoon. ;)

You'll get used to him. ;) Most posters have learnt to ignore him, some humour him, some no doubt have him on their "Foe list" and sometimes he gets taken to task. ;) We bear him no malice, just pity.

You may need to use a pinch of salt, (or even bucket) when reading some of his posts.

Apologies I don't mean to take this thread off topic, nor to attack another member, but I felt it would help your participation and enjoyment, if you were made aware of such things. :D

Sooner or later the Germans would have got rid of Hitler by them selves and that would have left Europe to be what? Eh?... A European Unity led by the Germans! What a difference to nowadays!! ;) ;) ;)

Jockey wrote:For anyone interested in the 2nd World War I thoroughly recommend a 26-episode British television documentary series called "The World at War" The documentary uses actual footage of the fighting and the civilians and tells the story as a factual account without taking sides. I recently downloaded the whole series using utorrent from piratebay.

Probably the best documentary series ever made about WW2. Well worth acquiring and watching, whatever your political views or opinions.
