I don't feel that miserable at the moment Uncle Tilo, my glass is half full,. Drove down to the Buddhist Temple at Chithurst today to remember my sister-in-law who recently passed on. I must say, the monks down there are the most mellow I've ever come across. They were all Farang and a nice bunch, and in a very peaceful place too. Where's your nearest Wat, Tilo?

There is a Thai wat just north of Toronto in Richmond Hill (owing to the number of rich Chinese in the area, it is called 'Rich Man's Hill') that has Thai monks in attendance.

Wat Yanviriya Buddhist Temple

Address: 166 Cedar Avenue, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 2A8 Ontario
Tradition: Theravada, Thai (Dhammayutti)
Phone: (905) 884-0299
Website: http://richmondhill.gq.nu/ - this link does not seem to be working. Mai pen rai na khap

Just west of Toronto, in Caledon, is a Lao wat that has monks from that country.

Lao Buddhist Association
(Wat Lao Veluwanaram) 17969 Airport Rd. Caledon East, Ont. L0N 1EO 905/584-6886; fax: 905/584-6006 Caledon East,Ontario

Apparently, there are Burmese and Khmer wats in Toronto too.

I have not visited any of them yet.

Sounds like you're well served for spiritual rejuvenation. I suppose half your students are at the Wats on a Sunday morning, atoning for their wicked weekends in downtown Toronto.

No, they are practicising Taoists who drink themselves silly Friday and Saturday nights and then retreat to the hills to paint and write poetry on Sundays.

Here is an example of what takes places at the Thai wat in Rich Man's Hill:
