OK, so your quite happy with the way the US economy is heading. I'm not stirring anything, just sitting back awaiting the entertainment; You guys screaming from the roof tops when can't get 25 Baht for your dollar!

One does not have to hold a degree to figure what's going to happen if your congress gives the go ahead to increase YOUR debt above $14.3 Trillion.

What a non-story.

When Clinton had a surplus, the republicans had a problem. When Bush wiped out the surplus overnight and went into the deepest debt, no one saw a problem. But now with a democrat president, it is a problem.

And Big Business pays no tax and even gets Billions in kick backs. While billionaire’s pay less taxes than you or me. When the U.S.D. is 25 baht to the dollar, the Euro will be 35 baht to the euro, enjoy.

Bandung, if you think "our" debt does not affect you, you need to think again. It will affect the whole world including "YOURS". And you guys will be will be screaming from the roof tops too.

RLT, In my opinion (for what is worth) the problem is the whole Republican vs Democrat thing. I am an American FIRST. We need the work this problem out and forget the party division. I think it's time someone runs for President as a non-party!

But what the heck do I know? :?

agree with the first part, rand. Its not "if" its "when" the debt limit will be raised. A default would crash the World Economies, big time.

It seems to me with a president right of Ronald Reagan, its a Black - White Issue.

Someone always runs as a non-republican/non-democrat. Its just that they are excluded from the media coverage and any debates and only get 2% of the vote. I had thought a black president would not be much of a problem. I was wrong, Big Time. But that problem will be solved in 2 years.

It may only be part of the story, but a decade of substantial fiscal deficits in the US has certainly helped the AUD to double its value against the USD (or looked at the other way round, for the USD to halve its value against the AUD).

AUD-USD 2001-2011.jpg

The AUD has benefited tremendously by its mineral wealth and a customer (China) that desperately needed those minerals – whether China will be as eager to buy should the US actually default poses an interesting question as China would lose a substantial part of the current value of its foreign reserves in the case of such a default :-k

Pretty well all countries would be affected by a default by the US - but, in my opinion, none more so than the US itself.

The graph above shows that the USA is # 1 in only one thing, screwing up. Don't know why some actually believe the # 1 PR and the USA is needed. It's XXXXXXXXXXXXX bound for total bankruptcy and failure. Pull your head out of the sand, that's why it's in the current financial downward spiral. A non party president, that's funny, and virtually impossible, know your system before you dream. But what do I know.....LOL

Agree topic is a big yawn. The USA Titanic has been heading towards the icebergs for years. Bush mounted turbo-chargers and Obama hasn't been turning hard to port hard enough (thanks Repubs in Congress). May as well just enjoy the band playing on the promenade deck for the rest of the short trip...

I do not know what has happened to this forumthe last few months. Name calling, insulting, threats. Isn't this web site owned by a famliy man that is an American??

All the things posted, and you are concerned about an American, who left over 20 years ago, bashing his own country, and rightfully so. The owner is from the UK, though the server is in the states, as many are. It's my birth-rite, and I have no respect for that country. Freedom of expression, remember that, hope so, because it no longer exists, per Patriot Act, along with the 4 th Amendment. Miranda Rights and Due Process and Habeas Corpus.

Let's keep to topic and talk about the debt then. ;)

Will the ceiling be raised, or will an austerity programme be introduced, or will the US have its debt rating reduced, or what?? :-k
